Before MagicBands were implemented at Walt Disney World Resort, you may remember something else which served as your “Key to Walt Disney World” called, uncoincidentally, “Walt Disney World Resort Key to the World” cards.
The Walt Disney World Resort Key to the World cards were given to Disney World Resort Guests and served as your “Key to Disney World” — it had everything in one including your hotel key, your park tickets, and more.
A few years ago, Disney decided to move forward with a new type of technology, MagicBands, which led to the discontinuation of “Key to the World” cards. However, there are still some hotels that utilize these “blast-from-the-past” cards!
During a stay at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort in Vero Beach, Florida, @tradzak on Instagram recently posted a photo of two “Key to the World” cards and captioned it “Vero still uses Key to the World cards!” — how neat is this?

Upon further investigation, we also realized that Disney’s Hilton Head Resort in South Carolina also still uses “Key to the World” cards! Their website states:
Start your check-in online beginning 10 days before your stay at Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort. Then when you arrive, simply head to the Online Check-In Desk, where your Welcome Folder and Key to the World card will be waiting. Show your valid photo I.D., complete your check-in and you’re on your way!

As the Walt Disney World Resort continues to move forward, they recently announced they would be discontinuing complimentary MagicBands beginning next year as they plan to bring an “innovative new offering” to the My Disney Experience app. They explained that the new offerings will bring the same features of a MagicBand right to a Guest’s fingertips within their smartphone. Inside the Magic will keep you updated as we get information regarding the new “innovative offering”.
“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” – Walt Disney.
