Now, the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has issued its official global testing policy statement. It reads:
CLIA ocean cruise line members worldwide have agreed to conduct 100% testing of passengers and crew on all ships with a capacity to cary 250 or more persons – with a negative test required for any embarkation. This is a travel industry first and an example of the cruise industry leading the way.
We see testing as an important initial step to a multi-layered approach that we believe validates the industry’s commitment to making health, safety, and the well-being of the passengers, the crew, and the communities we visit our top priority.
While Inside the Magic readers are undoubtedly most interested in the fact that Disney Cruise Line will be participating in 100% coronavirus testing for Guests and crew members, the news affects all CLIA member cruise lines. Other major cruise ship fleets, including Norwegian, Carnival, Princess, and Holland America, will also be participating in COVID-19 testing procedures.
Disney Cruise Line has not yet released any official details regarding how their mandatory passenger COVID-19 testing process will work. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
At this time, Disney has suspended cruises into December on all four ships — the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy, the Disney Magic, and the Disney Wonder — though there are some Baja cruises out of the Port of San Diego available in early 2021.
