Super poor reporting – the numbers don’t inherently have anything to do with the parks. First – there are many other things at play. At best, this means WDW hasn’t play a role in the numbers (which yes, is good.) Or, second, the cases can be reported from where someone lives. Orange County, FL will not have the numbers from travelers if they get confirmed back at home.
This does not mean WDW is a problem. However, the claim they numbers dropping there shows a pure lack of understanding on health data and contact tracing.
I’m sorry, do YOU work for the CDC? This information is coming from MEDICAL OFFICIALS, and nobody cares what you do or do not think. These are FACTS. Your gloom and doom scenario is based on your personal opinions, versus MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS facts.
I thought LZ’s reply was thoughtful, factual AND accurate; they’re right in that the numbers could be falsely skewed because the majority of visitors to the parks are from out of state. They contribute to their home state’s numbers, not necessarily Florida’s (or Orange County’s).
I’m sorry that this triggered such an emotional response from you, but it’s important to look at ALL the data.
Actually, you cannot make a definitive correlation between mitigation efforts in numbers dropping. Case in point, many areas in our country have had numbers going up using the same mitigation efforts. Basically, the virus will run its course, and it is showing that throughout the world not just in Florida. Even in Sweden which used very little mitigation.
yeah but the death toll is going up and we just surpassed 200k thats not a virus slowing down and not a good sign! We are the only country still w a rising death toll aka we are not under control so even if the #s level out still a chance of getting sick and death and #s changing its far from over so lets have some kindness and concern!
do not give universal another reason to act like theres nothing wrong in this world just like the president! I wish we were doing the right things and some days i feel safe while others i feel capacity never changed! Thats dangerous and as a manager i voice it everyday but i am but one voice and btw i love my job i am just scared okay! We did not open smart like everywhere else and saying everything is fine but isnt is making folks not get it! If it was no big deal and going away you better tell someone! And Tell that to half the folks i know whom had covid at universal and yes while they are fine and back at wrk i know countless others whose families are mourning their loss thanks to covid! My best friend might be over covid but now shes suffering from the after affect and is out every other day due to her heart issues shes 21 and healthier then most marathon runners! She was asked to leave for no other reason then shes taken too many days off from wrk like she wants too !?! She loved her job! Universal just didnt want what shes going through to get out or deal w hee i do not know… good news though she now has a wdw job and feels much safer and they understand her condition bc they have compassion! If you couldnt tell by their rules! (Btw universal is the only theme park not following some capacity guideline nor 6ft apart we have lines that no one uses right!)
I am sick and tired of the world thinking this is a sick joke and articles like this that encourage it! It seems like unless your directly affected you do not care and thats whats wrong w the great USA! Its like BLM and the rainbow community if your not directly affect you probably think their crazy but thats the problem you selfish and do not think for yourself!
Amen!!!! Thank you for telling it like it really is! I completely agree! Universal is NOT complying! They are NOT making guests socially distance anymore and they don’t care if you keep your mask down! I won’t go there because I have co-morbidities! I feel much safer at WDW!
BTW, I’m sorry about your friend/coworker losing her job and having to deal with COVID and now the health issues that come with it! ?
There are several problems with this story. First, based on CDC recommendations, 5% positivity rate of PCR tests is the trigger point for when to start looking at options for getting things back under control, including closing things down. Running below 5% means things are reasonably under control. And, as LZ correctly pointed out above, the positivity rates in the county aren’t necessarily reflective of the actual infection rate since so many guests come from outside the county.
There’s a lot of good news here, and especially that so far as I’ve heard, no outbreaks have been traced to the parks (although, once again, that’s dependent on the guests home health departments reporting back to Orange County in Florida). What the parks, and the county in general, are doing seems to be working. If they want to open it up more it needs to be done very cautiously.
