Considering that thanks to the overuse of face masks, the virus has now mutated to go through face masks, we should be able to agree that there are no longer safety reasons for face masks.

That aside, it will be interesting to see how the courts interpret ADA on this one, both sides have a decent case. Although there are alternatives to face masks, such as face shields (which logically would do more to stop the spread than masks anyway, but that is another story) that could have accommodated, but Disney won’t allow them.

actually thats wrong face sheilds are wide open compared to face masks unforunately i am in the medical profession and you need both to be safe or live in a bubble! Just stop acting like wearing a mask is wrong… have kindness and understand you nor this crazy person is the only ones alive in this world!

Free hugs ur the crazy one being in the medical field u of all people should know that there are people in the world that have legitimate medical reasons they cannot wear a mask. Like my son he has asthma and autism. Based on ur opinion he should not be able to go out and injoy things and just be stuck in the house because he can’t wear a mask

        1. Jimmy

I have asthma, and I wear a mask. Stop making excuses and be a responsible human for a change.

    2. Jon

Mutation to go through a face mask? This might be the most idiotic thing I’ve read today. But the day is young, and the ignorance of people is mighty.

      1. Browser

Better read the latest article from “The Hill”. That is exactly what the virus is doing.

        1. Gencha

Oh please! Just because something is in print, you believe it. Then hey, the sky is falling, and that is in a book!

        2. Jennifer Gaines

I understand wanting to give your child the most normal experience possible, but if the reason for the child not being able to wear a mask is because something on their body feels like knives, does the child wear clothes or shop naked?
And to those of you who try to make people who wear masks feel like they’re stupid because mask “don’t do anything,” I’ll stop wearing a masks when surgeons stop wearing masks.

  2. MICHAEL

Direct quote from PA website “In Pennsylvania, masks must be worn whenever anyone leaves home.” I’m sure Disney faces penalties if they disregard the nanny-state facist orders, so just shut up and follow “the law”

    1. TacoCat

If you know your child has that much of a problem, why put them in that uncomfortable situation? Not good decision for a so called caring mother. This is a case of looking for 15 minutes of fame.

      1. Tonya

That was my first thought regarding this story. Was taking the autistic boy to The Disney Store necessary? If they have a strict policy to keep their employees and patrons safe and the boy cannot comply, then just don’t take the child there! Furthermore, I could just imagine the scene in which mom was told that he needed to wear one, she threw a fit about it and that is now why the child is “suffering” from the “traumatic” incident.

Second thought was, “Are there not more important things going on in this world that this ‘woman’ can’t just pull her panties out of her crack and move on?”.

Hope this lady wins by a landslide. If this virus is so dangerous that not even .001% of people with medical issues that keep them from being able to wear a mask can’t enter, then the parks should be closed period. We all know mask don’t work 100% so don’t pretend they do Disney.

    1. Paul

No one states or suggests that masks work 100%, but that’s not the point, is it? The reason is to reduce the viral load in the air. If they are 50% or 70% effective, that’s usually enough.

It’s amazing to me that for the first time in the history of mankind pretty much everyone has access to what essentially amounts to entirety of information and knowledge of everything known, and people continue to make statements like, “We all know mask don’t work 100% so don’t pretend they do Disney”.

      Sigh.

  4. Moo

Private company, private business, they can make their own rules. There’s no law saying you “have to be allowed entrance” into a private space. Next you’re going to tell me the “no shirt, no shoes” policy is wrong too…

    1. Trent

The moment they deny entry to someone with no feet because they dont have any shoes on, then yes, Ill tell you thats wrong too. The point here is common sense. Where did that go?

      1. Jimmy

They have the right to refuse service, like you have the right to stay home.

  5. Darth Pence

Supporting Trump is the disability of most people who don’t want to wear a mask.

  6. Brighter

The ADA says people with disabilities must be accommodated *so long as the accommodation does not put anyone else at risk.* Not wearing a mask puts others at risk.

    1. SG

Amen to that. We’re still in an epidemic! This Mom is totally wrong! She’s putting her child in danger. Just another science denier who doesn’t believe masks keeps us and others from getting and spreading COVID. I’m so tired of people abusing the ADA! This isn’t even news worthy.

      1. Thanks darth for your idiotic comment. This has nothing to do with Trump. I don’t think this article is suppose to be political.

  7. VDog

Lol, the comments are ALWAYS far more entertaining than the article when it comes to this ridiculousness that we ALL have to go through. NO ONE should be exempt and as soon at businesses start easing up, half of the crowd will be walking around without a mask and some pathetic excuse. I mean, “anything on my boy’s body feels like knifes to him”…. sooo then was he walking around naked?? And I don’t know what the current rules are in other states, but if I go to a mall right now, ALL of the stores are requiring a mask. Not just the Disney store. Why aren’t people trying to sue TJ Maxx or freakin Claire’s.. oh right, because Disney is the obvious ea$y target!

    1. That’s exactly what I was going to say ( does he walk around naked) if wearing a mask helps then we should do it

    2. Andre

Thank you. The most logical comment so far. The “knives” comment had me thinking the same thing, must not wear clothing either. I’m sorry but if a person is unable to abide by the rules for whatever reason, than find another way to have an enjoyable experience that will protect the person and others. Could have easily had a Disney themed party in their own home. Don’t want to wear a mask that’s required to enter a store? Shop from home and have it delivered. No mask required.

      1. Gencha

Absolutely. And if he doesn’t wear a mask and she takes him everywhere, he may be bringing the virus in with him everywhere!

    3. Hannah

      Good point!

  8. Deborah Brooks-Smith

What’s good for one is good for all. If you knowing he needed a mask to enter which is most places an he can’t wear one then why would you even take him there. I wouldn’t do that to him as a parent. Maybe you could of called to maybe make some kind of special arrangements to accommodate his situation. Everyone Be safe an Enjoy your day.

  9. Faith Bouchard

I have family members who are autistic. They wear masks they don’t freak out about it. I never heard of what this woman is claiming regarding the knives syndrome and I do believe Disney is a easy target…which is why I am quite sure the lawyer jumped on this. But this is the hand we have been dealt. The lady needs to follow the safety guidelines. I am claustrophobic…I didn’t think I was truly going to be able to handle it…but you do your part and I got used to it . Her child will as well. She needs to maybe practice it more often with him at home so he can start getting used to it on his face…opposed to being a rebel about it and saying he can’t before she even tries. Bythw…what about the safety of her other child? Is she not concerned? I am not cold I am all about children…but this is nothing more than a copout! Which could effect the health and wellbeing of many.

    1. Bryan

I have kids with autism and agree with this completely. We worked with our kids at home wearing masks, and now they do it automatically when walking out the door. They grab their masks, and have them ready to go when they need them. We’ve taken several trips to the local zoo, stores, and school with zero issues. Occasionally while out for extended periods (such as the zoo) we need to take a mask break, and find an isolated area 6 feet away from others and take a break with some snacks. It’s not hard. She just wants the publicity.

  10. Christina

    Face shield works perfectly.

    1. Jimmy

You do know that air containing the virus can just go over and under the shield, right? Are people really this stupid?

  11. Randy senna

People with mental issues react differently to things others have no problem with.

Knowing someone cannot wear a mask without an issue, they should not be taken to places that require a mask.

It is unfair to place the person with issues in a position where they will be in conflict, and it is also unfair to place those working at the store in the position of being the bad guy because they are enforcing rules created to protect public health.

Those who demand to do as they please, regardless of rules created, should stay home, and not subject the rest of the world to their selfish demands.

I understand this mothers concerns, However during these troubled time with the Pandemic of Covid 19, exceptions must prevail. Not wearing a mask could expose her child to corona virus a deadly infection resulting in death, or long care isolation in a hospital. One day soon in the near future, a vaccine will be available that will bring us back to a more normal. Loving and caring for your child is wonderful, and Loving and caring much for accommodatable in the interest of your child and those whose lack of concern for those around them.

      Put this woman in jail

      1. g f

(puts YOU in jail instead, guarded by many Isabelles)

Disney will win…ADA allows for safety and health concerns to be taken into account when denying an accommodation. Get a grip “Mom” ! Kids are not necessary for a shopping trip at the mall.

You need a hug? I can understand that maybe your child can not wear a mask, but I don’t understand what you mean about being stuck at home obviously you don’t need to be stuck at home, and by the way thank goodness you have a home… because others don’t. Oh back to it! Just take your child to your backyard they don’t need to go to the mall. That’s all the n you needing to shop. Outside is all they need. The fresh air will do them good. Just stay 6 feet away from everyone to keep you and your family safe!!!

      1. Anonymous

This was for you Eric and everyone that can’t help but be a hindrance to everyone else who wants to stay healthy. Thanks

The US Dep of Justice already has stated that the act “does not provide a blanket exemption to people with disabilities from complying with legitimate safety requirements necessary for safe operations.”

    https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/department-justice-warns-inaccurate-flyers-and-postings-regarding-use-face-masks-and

Disney followed legitimate safety requirements in consideration of others.

If they had to pick again between society’s need to limit the spread of the virus or have this kid run around maskless, I hope they will prioritize the former again, every time.

    1. g f

Still will lose, what if she didn’t have a choice but to have him around?

  17. Anonymous

If her kid had sensory issues and couldn’t wear clothes, I think it would be agreed that her child should not go out in public completely naked. They would need to find clothes that would be bearable. I can imagine there may be a sensory issue involved in this, at which point the mother needs to find a mask that will work for him… just like she would need to find clothes. It doesn’t warrant a change to the rule or people will simply be looking for loopholes and the rule will be pretty useless when everyone has found some excuse to not have to follow it.
