And this is exactly why I will NOT be paying for Premier Access! Why pay for something when it’ll be free (except for the subscription fee) a few months later? In the UK it’d cost £19.99, had they released it in the UK to cinemas – the ticket would have cost at my local cinema £4.99, I don’t usually buy snacks, and generally go to the cinema by myself so I can lose myself for a couple of hours. I kind of understand it in countries where cinemas aren’t open, but in countries where they are they should be helping to keep the industry alive, since it’s the industry that is the backbone of Disney in the first place.
Why I agree with you (I’ll wait too), that’s pretty darn cheap to see a first-run movie. I converted that to about $6.70 US and there is no way you could see the first run of Mulan for that price anywhere in the US, unless it was some special one-showing promotion.
Where I live in Southern California the average price at a AMC or Regal (the two largest chains) would be about $14-$16 US, and we generally go to a luxury theater (Cinepolis) where on a weekend evening you’d pay about $22. So for the 3 of us (my wife, daughter and me) minimum would be about $45 for tickets and up to over $60 at the lux theater (and we can’t stand going to a regular theater – sorry). Top that off with just drinks and you’ve added another $20.
So… for $29, order up some pizza, and if you have a good size wide-screen TV, that could be a bargain for a family.
But yes, after all this time we can wait 3 more months! (Ps, I was able to meet the man who plays Mulan’s dad back in January at out community TV station – what a nice man!!
Yikes, I’m glad I don’t go see movies in CA. A matinee ticket here would cost $7 or $8 (a bit more in the evening of course), and I’m with Thomas, I don’t generally bother to buy snacks; so there is no way I’d pay $29 to see a movie. I really prefer the big screen experience anyway. I just need some of my local theaters to hurry and open now. I’m really missing movies.
Maybe…MAYBE if it were a top-notch Marvel or Pixar movie I might be tempted to “rent” it early. But we’ve been waiting for months. I can wait a few more.
Yes I will pay the money. Have already paid to see a couple of other movies the day they came out on demand. Cheaper then going to the theatre for roommate and myself and have been wanting to see this one for a while. Paying under $4 a month for Disney+, this additional amount is no big deal to me.
