Hardly anyone even know what movie that goes with, my kids just knew it was the Splash Mountain song – for all they (or millions of others) know, it was made for that ride! Like how Fantasmic has its own song, or the Wishes fireworks song… The song itself is great – and anyone under the age of 35 hasn’t even seen the movie!
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah is a fun innocent song. It shouldn’t be just associated with a discriminatory time. This situation is being carried away! It’s history and part of some people’s stories. Enough already! I enjoyed the movie and songs and would love to see it again.
I loved Splash Mountain. But I also completely understand and agree with how disturbing and offensive references to this intellectual property can be to African Americans.
Disney has decided Song of the South is history folks. As Brad Hamilton so wisely said to Jeff Spicoli in Fast Times At Ridgemont High, “Learn it. Know it. Live it.”
I’m so over this junk… That song, although may come from that movie, is NOT encouraging slavery or racism. It’s a joyous song, not so different from “Happy” by Pharrell! Should I be offended by “Happy” because it’s sung by a church choir, since I’m not of that religion? Should I demand that Disney stops selling Christmas ornaments or decorates for the holiday? Maybe I should write a letter to Disney because I’m offended by Minnie and Daisy wearing heels, and that is encouraging sexism… blah blah blah… This song is a theme for happiness, and embracing the day because you are alive to see it… These people who are offended need to get a real hobby.
Currently available on Ebay. Secondary market prices range from $250 to $675, retail was $24.95 Looks like some of the good folks who worked at Hallmark bought them up and decided to cash in on political correctness. Got to love capitalism 🙂

What a shame! Those who forget/cancel the past are doomed to repeat it.

It’s a good song! PC people need to go.

I don’t think ornaments are the only things getting “cancelled”.
