Lovely news today as the animal care team at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge announced the birth of a new female zebra foal at the hotel.
The team named the new arrival Pheonix as the foal recently made her first appearance at the resort’s Sunset Savanna. The name Pheonix was chosen by the team as a symbol of strength and renewal and she was born to mom Peebles. She marks the second Hartmann foal born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge this year!
Pheonix was born as part of Disney’s Species Survival Plan program which is overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The program is in place to make sure all breeding is done responsibly and to ensure genetic diversity.
Phoenix is the fourth Zebra to be born at Walt Disney World this year and the 13th since Disney joined the breeding program.
Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of our favorite hotels at Walt Disney World, being able to wake up at the start of the day and see animals wander around the hotel is incredible, it’s certainly one of the best experiences on property. We can easily spend hours just sitting on the balcony with a drink and watching nature in action.
It’s great to see the team at both Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Animal Kingdom Lodge continue to embrace responsible and successful breeding. It’s always lovely to be able to see animal babies when out wandering the hotel or on safari at Kilimanjaro Safaris.
