Enter Funko, toymakers of all things pop culture. They’ve already dug a few plots in the Mansion graveyard by way of several spirited POP figures. Later this year, the Funko finds fearsome fun for families with Call of the Spirits, a Disney’s Haunted Mansion-based board game.
Although Madame Leota’s crystal ball went dark when we asked her to point her powers of prognostication towards FUNKO (their website yielded only box art), she was able to advise us where to turn. Shovels in hand, our next stop was the “cemetery” (website) of GTS Distribution. There, we were able to dig up a bit more dirt on this new ghostly game.
Disney’s beloved The Haunted Mansion comes to life – err, death – in this hauntingly fun family board game! Explore all the classic rooms of the ghost-infested manor, from the festivities-filled Ballroom to the Attic and out to the Graveyard and beyond in search of spirits. Beware, though, of the Hitchhiking Ghosts, who are notorious for “following you home” as that may spell your doom in the end! — GTS Distribution
According to their afterlife attestation, gameplay requires 2-6 bodies (living preferred) and lasts about half an hour. Apparently, according to the listed contents, each player receives their own game piece and reference card. A trio of game-specific card decks keeps the adventure moving: Hitchhiking Ghosts deck, Ghost Deck, and Haunt Deck. Additional, intriguing ingredients include bid clocks (2), Hitchhiking Ghosts token, instructions, and, of course, the game board.
GTS also grants a glimpse into “gameplay features:”
- Rotating endless hallway changes player positions throughout the game
- A simple, push-your-luck, ghost-bidding system adds spine-tingling excitement
- The 99 unique ghost cards feature illustrations inspired by the original Haunted Mansion
- Classic bat-stanchion player movers intensify the spooky atmosphere of the game
- Provides hours of family fun for fans of the beloved Disneyland attraction
