Ooshies are known by most as squishy mini figures of everyone’s favorite licensed characters that also double up as pencil toppers. However, it seems they’re now becoming serious collector’s items as Woolworths’ special edition Lion King Ooshies are being listed on eBay for upwards of $100,000.
Yes–you read that right, these little squishy collectables are being listed on the popular online retailer at starting bids of $100k. Now, for someone who might not have ever heard of these collectables and see them as quite small and undeserving of such extreme value–you’re not alone. However, it seems that due to the rarity of these special items, their value has skyrocketed.
In celebration of the recent release of Disney’s “The Lion King,” Woolsworths (an Australian supermarket chain) teamed up with Disney to give people the chance to collect these special edition Lion King Ooshies as part of a 24-piece set. To receive the Ooshies, shoppers who spent $30 or more at the stores would get one as part of their purchase. And of these 24-piece set, it seems a special Simba character was only released in a limited amount. And by limited–we mean limited. Woolsworths only released 100 of the furry Simba Ooshies into circulation, causing collectors to scramble to find them.
From this excitement and madness, it’s lead to owners of these special Ooshies to list the items on eBay at extreme prices. Just earlier this week, it was reported that one of the limited-edition furry Simba’s found in Plympton Park, Adelaide was sold on eBay for $99,900.00. However, the bidder did cancel the order and the seller ended the listing.
Even though this one listing didn’t end well for the seller, it hasn’t stopped others from attempting to sell their own Ooshies on the online shopping website. Many others are currently attempting to sell the limited-edition items from anywhere between $10,000 – $100,000.
