30 days seems a bit short to me, as someone who’s lost things and not realized right away, maybe 60 days would be a better middle ground. So the main difference is the time limit and corps potentially making money from lost stuff as opposed to the police. I wonder how much money is to be made from lost items.

ABSOLUTELY NOT !!! They should DONATE the items to a charity to be sold or given away – not their own charity.
