Disney Parks around the world are celebrating the Year of the Pig, and we’re so excited to share more information with you. Disney California Adventure, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland all offer live entertainment, themed decorations, merchandise, food, and even more in honor of Chinese New Year, so guests can celebrate traditions of the holiday with a sprinkle of pixie dust. Keep reading to find out more!

Shanghai Disneyland

Starting off, let’s travel to Shanghai Disneyland, where guests can celebrate the Year of the Pig from January 19 through February 19. The park will be decorated in traditional Chinese New Year style with added Disney magic, including vibrant Mickey lanterns, Chinese couplets, paper decorations, and even more. The Garden of the Twelve Friends, a Disney-style zodiac attraction, will even be transformed into a Wishing Garden in honor of the new year.

Each morning during the celebration, guests can even witness a customary drum ceremony near Storytellers Statue. Other shows include a special performance of Shanghai Swing by Mickey and his pals, as well as a Chinese New Year carnival at Wishing Star Market. Additionally, on select nights throughout the celebration, January 25-26 and February 4-10 and 19, guests can watch the nighttime show Ignite the Dream: a Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light end with a special moment after the show that commemorates Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year at Shanghai Disneyland culminates in the February 19 Lantern Festival. You won’t want to miss all of the fun and celebrations that the Year of the Pig will bring at Shanghai Disneyland!

Hong Kong Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland offers its own exciting celebrations of Chinese New Year, as well! Now through February 24, guests can take photos with Mickey, Duffy, and all of their friends in their seasonal outfits. These characters are even cuter in their Chinese New Year clothing! Hong Kong Disneyland also offers guests the opportunity to watch the God of Fortune Goofy Celebration Moment at the Castle Hub Stage, and performers will showcase their traditional Chinese outfits all throughout the park. And in honor of the Year of the Pig, you can meet the Three Little Pigs (Fiddler, Fifer, and Practical) in Fantasyland!

Just like at Shanghai Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland offers plenty of seasonal merchandise to commemorate Chinese New Year, too. More than 50 new merchandise items and 60 new food offerings are on sale through February 24. And Lai See will be distributed to park guests from February 5-9 in honor of the new year tradition. These packets will include a gold coin and a coupon to use on merchandise, food, and beverage, so if you’re planning a visit you won’t want to miss out. We love how Hong Kong Disneyland is showcasing the spirit of Chinese New Year, and we hope our Inside the Magic readers have a chance to make the trip!
