Springtime

Disney “Mickey Mouse” shorts have been delighting fans since their debut in 2013 and the episode, Springtime, is an homage to Disney’s classic film “Fantasia.”

In this exclusive video, the show’s composer, Christopher Willis, shares behind-the-scenes details about creating the sprawling, music-only short. In “Springtime,” Mickey embodies the Bringer of Spring, while Pete represents an angry Winter who doesn’t want to give up his grasp on the world.

“Springtime” pays tribute to Fantasia, of course, in all these charming ways big and small, like the fact that the cartoon has no dialogue or sound effects,” says Willis. “But for me as the composer, there’s another kind of tribute going on, and that’s my little personal homage to the classical composers that have inspired me. To anyone who enjoys the music I’ve written, I would say, please, don’t stop there: go and explore the world of classical music — you won’t regret it!”
