Rare vintage Disney artwork from ‘Fantasia,’ park attractions to fetch top dollar at Heritage Auction

Disney fans have a chance to grab some pieces of the company’s history at the Heritage Animation Auction taking place next month in Dallas.

Vintage artwork from a number of classic Disney films is on sale, including one of the largest selections of art from Fantasia (1940). The highlight of the collection is Kay Nielson’s Night on Bald Mountain concept painting, seen below, which is expected to fetch at least $50,000.

A number of other pieces from Fantasia are being offered, including cels, animation drawings, concept art, and more.

Mickey Mouse dons his famous wizard hat from Fantasia as he gazes at a broom casting a dramatic shadow—an unforgettable scene brought to life in classic Disney artistry, reminiscent of the magic fans experience at Disney parks.

Hippo and alligator characters dressed in ballet costumes perform a whimsical dance together beneath soaring columns, capturing the enchanting spirit of Fantasia as seen in classic Disney Park entertainment.

Billed as one of the most important items Heritage has ever auctioned, Ken Anderson’s studies for the Haunted Mansion attraction, based on the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, are also available.

A detailed sketch of a stately mansion with towering columns sits beside a weathered folder labeled “The Haunted House,” capturing the mysterious charm fans love about classic Disney Parks attractions. The artwork channels the nostalgic spirit of early Imagineering concept art, recalling Fantasia’s whimsical style and legendary Disney collectibles featured at Heritage Auctions.
