We knew Marvel’s “Black Panther” had been tracking for a massive opening weekend at the box office, but somehow, it still managed to greatly exceed our expectations!

“Black Panther” has reportedly earned over $201 million! Making the film’s premiere the the fifth highest opening weekend of all time, trailing only Star Wars Episodes 7 and 8, “Jurassic World” and “The Avengers.”

This makes “Black Panther” the second highest opening weekend total in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ahead of films like “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Captain America: Civil War.”

It also means this film posted the highest opening weekend for any superhero solo outing, surpassing “Iron Man 3” by nearly $30 million.

Perhaps most impressive though, is the fact that “Black Panther” had the most successful opening weekend of any movie that was not a sequel, prequel or remake, by a wide margin. “The Hunger Games” sits nearly $50 million lower than the impressive record set by “Black Panther.”

If “Black Panther” follows the pattern of “The Avengers,” with the opening weekend accounting for roughly 1/3 of its final gross, it will end up being the sixth highest grossing movie of all time, behind the four aforementioned films and “Avatar.”

You can see what all the hype is about by checking out “Black Panther” in theaters now!
