Marvel’s “Black Panther” is almost here and it is creating quite a bit of buzz. In fact, earlier this month it broke Marvel’s record for pre-sale tickets purchased in the first 24 hours.
Now, it’s being reported that “Black Panther” is tracking for an opening weekend somewhere in the range of $100 million to $120 million.
Assuming “Black Panther” hits the high end of that estimate, this would give the film the fifth highest opening weekend amongst solo films (if you count “Guardians of the Galaxy” as a solo film) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, just behind the recent “Thor: Ragnarok” which earned $122 million.
It would also be the highest opening weekend for a non-sequel solo film. The 2017 summer blockbuster “Spider-Man: Homecoming” earned $117 million, a number “Black Panther” may very well surpass.
You can see what all the hype is about when “Black Panther” hits theaters February 16.
