It’s hard to believe, but the “Tomb Raider” franchise has been around for more than two decades now. The two most recent video games in the series, 2013’s eponymous reboot and its 2015 sequel “Rise of the Tomb Raider,” were incredibly well-received by game critics and players alike– and most importantly, just plain fun. Now the movie adaptation of the contemporary “Tomb Raider” series is set to hit theaters in March.
Today Warner Bros. released the second full-length trailer for the new movie, and it looks to be remarkably faithful to the plot and characters of the 2013 game. If it manages to also retain the sense of adventure and excitement gamers felt while experiencing the above-mentioned titles, the studio could very well have a hit on its hands.

“Tomb Raider” follows brilliant young archaeologist Lara Croft— essentially a female Indiana Jones– on her adventures in acquiring rare artifacts, exploring long-abandoned temples, and eagerly following in the footsteps of her father. This new movie adaptation will star Alicia Vikander (“Ex Machina”) as Lara, Dominic West (“The Wire”) as Lord Richard Croft, and Walton Goggins (“Justified”) as the villainous Mathias Vogel.
“Tomb Raider” will be released into theaters nationwide on Friday, March 16.
