VIDEO: Those Resistance Ski Speeders may not be very effective battle vehicles in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”

One of the most memorable scenes in the recent trailers for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is the Resistance piloting their Ski Speeders on the planet Crait, dragging up clouds of red soil behind them.

The beat up, dilapidated-looking speeders are heading right for the First Order’s AT-M6 Heavy Assault Walkers, a matchup they certainly don’t seem prepared for. If the impending conflict seems a bit one-sided, that’s because Director Rian Johnson wanted it that way.

WATCH – A BREAKDOWN OF THE RESISTANCE SKI SPEEDERS:

“One of Rian’s overriding principals on them is… they are basically heaps of crap,” said Lucasfilm story group’s Pablo Hidalgo of the speeders. “They are old and not meant to instill confidence. They are like a lot of things in the Resistance — weapons of last resort. Use what you have on hand, even old, outdated stuff falling apart for years. If you believe in it, hopefully it will fly.”

You can find out how the ski speeders hold up in their David vs. Goliath-like fight when “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” arrives in theaters December 15.
