“Mary Poppins Returns” doesn’t arrive in theaters until next winter, but a new photo gives a glimpse of the fun in store for a new generation of the Banks family.
The image shows Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt), her friend Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and John (Nathanael Saleh), Annabel (Pixie Davies), and Georgie (Joel Dawson) Banks going for a ride. Jane (Emily Mortimer) and Ellen (Julie Walters) look on with worried faces.
The new film is set in 1930s London, where Jane and Michael Banks are now all grown up. Michael (Ben Whishaw) is living with his three children and housekeeper, Ellen, on Cherry Tree Lane. When he suffers a personal loss, Mary Poppins re-enters their lives along with her lamplighter friend Jack and her eccentric cousin Topsy (Meryl Streep).
Dick van Dyke plays Mr. Dawes, Jr., the chairman of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, which is now run by William Weatherall Wilkins (Colin Firth).
Angela Lansbury plays the Balloon Lady, a beloved character from P.L. Travers’ book.
“Mary Poppins Returns” arrives in theaters on December 25, 2018.
