Stitch’s Great Escape at Walt Disney World has been transformed into a new Stitch character meet-and-greet.
Stitch’s Great Escape, which opened in 2004, replaced “ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter” and operated daily until 2016 before switching to a seasonal schedule. Now, the attraction is replaced by a costumed character meet-and-greet called Stitch’s Alien Encounter Character Greeting.
Thanks to Twitter user @1Ben_Laurence, we have a look at the new sign outside the attraction. The name includes a nod to ‘Alien Encounter,’ but beyond that, no links to the previous attraction are expected.
Previously, Stitch was spotted doing meet-and-greets on Main Street, U.S.A. Earlier this year, the character started meeting guests outside Space Mountain in Tomorrowland. When the new space opens, Stitch’s Alien Encounter Character Greeting will offer a dedicated space to meet the adorable extraterrestrial.
Stitch’s Great Escape was a “theater-in-the-round” experience with audio, visual, olfactory, and Audio-Animatronics special effects. Some of those waving animatronic figures were captured in this video from Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2017.
