Horton the Elephant is teaching kids about kindness and compassion in new educational activities aboard Carnival Cruise Line.
Part of a collaboration between Carnival Cruise Line and Dr. Seuss Enterprises, the project joins a national campaign called “Be Kind/Dare to Care.” Activities built around Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! begin this month on the Carnival fleet and complement the existing Seuss at Sea program.
“Horton Hears a Who!,” published in 1954, tells the story of Horton the Elephant, who hears a speck of dust talking to him. He realizes the speck of dust is actually a planet called Whoville, home to the tiny Whos. Horton vows to protect the Whos from harm, saying “a person’s a person, no matter how small.”
Kids aboard Carnival Cruise Line will apply that lesson through a pledge to be kind, with prizes awarded for the most creative submissions. Other Horton-themed crafts and activities, like the creation of friendship bracelets, are included.
In addition, Horton joins the ship’s Seuss-a-Palooza Parade.
