Universal Creativity

7. Butterbeer Slime – using craft glue to make slime is nothing new.  With this tutorial, improve your slime making skills to brew a whimsical wizarding wonder that would impress even Professor Snape.

8. Tom Riddle’s Diary – be sure to book some extra time to make this iconic journal.  The completed craft could also encourage a budding writer to add an entry or two on a regular basis (just don’t imbed any horcruxes to it)

9. SpongeBob Pencil Case – another DIY with dual purpose – this bright idea will also serve as a place to store those pens and pencils for doing homework after school.

10. SpongeBob Squarepants – perhaps pencil storage isn’t your or your child’s future . . . soak up the summertime creativity by using a real sponge to make this cartoon character.

11. Horton’s Clover/Truffula Tree – Dr. Seuss stories (and crafts) are great gifts for those just learning to read.  These clever colorful creations can reinforce those reading skills. Afterwards (or before) read the related story (“The Lorax” or “Horton Hears a Who”) together.

12. Maggie Simpson Paper Model – this video shows how to fold an already printed paper template into a Maggie Simpsons figure (template for this an many other paper crafts found in the video description).

While we’ve only listed a dozen do-it-yourself projects, there are hundreds more to found online, including our friend Ray Keim’s paper model purgatory page (which has several Haunted Mansion and Halloween Horror Nights inspired models).  With any activity of this nature, especially those involving sharp objects like scissors and craft knives, adult supervision is strongly advised.
