The storyline of the popular new Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction at Disney California Adventure will soon be making its way to your television.

During San Diego Comic-Con 2017, it was revealed that season 3 of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” animated series on Disney XD will follow and expand on the story told on the attraction.

According to Marsha Griffin, Marvel Animation’s Senior VP of Production, the beginning of the season will see Rocket rescuing the Guardians after their capture by the Collector, just as we do on the Mission: BREAKOUT! ride. After that, the TV series deals with the Collector chasing the Guardians across the galaxy on various adventures.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! opened in Disneyland in May, and it was announced at D23 Expo 2017 that Walt Disney World will be getting its own version of the ride. You can experience Mission: BREAKOUT! in our video below.

Griffin also revealed Stan Lee will be making a cameo during the third season of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” playing an elevator operator at the Collector’s museum.

In addition to expanding on the theme park’s storyline, a few episodes later in the season will experiment with different animation styles.

Season 2 of “Guardians of the Galaxy” is airing now on Disney XD.

I’m pretty sure that the Epcot Guardians of the Galaxy attraction (announced at the D23 Expo) isn’t going to be a version of Mission: Breakout. Then the backstory of Peter Quill visiting Epcot as a child wouldn’t be needed.
