Three superheroes in vibrant costumes strike dynamic poses against a dramatic black backdrop; one, channeling the powerful Dark Phoenix as seen in the X-Men films, sits confidently in a wheelchair, reaching forward with energy reminiscent of an epic live-action show.

As previously announced by 20th Century Fox, the next film in the main “X-Men” movie series will be entitled “X-Men: Dark Phoenix,” centering around the character of Jean Grey, now played by actress Sophie Turner of HBO’s fantasy drama “Game of Thrones.”

What we didn’t know until today was whether fellow cast members James McAvoy (Professor Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), or Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) would return to reprise their characters, perhaps the three most popular in the current post-“First Class” run of “X-Men” features, based on the long-running Marvel comic books of the same name.

The three well-known actors were previously only contracted for a trilogy of movies, which concluded with 2016’s “X-Men: Apocalypse,” but today the trade publication Deadline Hollywood revealed that they would indeed return for a fourth outing, alongside Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), and the aforementioned Turner.

“X-Men: Dark Phoenix” is currently scheduled for a November 2nd, 2018 release, with Simon Kinberg (writer/producer of the last few “X-Men” movies) taking over as director from series mastermind Bryan Singer.
