You can see that the reason the castle staff ARE on the poster in the US version, is the same reason that US movie posters today are identically head-crowded:
Since the supporting actors don’t ask for net profit anymore, part of what their agents leverage for is character exposure, namely not being left off the poster. Just how big they are on the poster, however, depends on their agent, and their negotiable role in the movie.
(And since those negotiations don’t apply to foreign rights…)
