Official title for “Star Wars: Episode VIII” revealed

It’s official! The new title for “Star Wars: Episode VIII” has been revealed today. The title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga will be “STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI”.

“THE LAST JEDI” is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

The movie officially started shooting February 15, 2016, director Rian Johnson actually shot one scene first with stars Daisy Ridley (Rey) and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) last fall. This was months before even Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out. Basically, the scene was a continuation of the final scene of Force Awakens, which leads off Episode VIII.

“STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI” is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.
