Back in October, 2014, I started a Facebook page devoted to transforming Spaceship Earth into the Death Star (https://www.facebook.com/TransformSpaceshipEarthIntoTheDeathStar), so this news is super exciting! I wish I could be there for it. But I’m still holding out hope that it can happen permanently sometime in the future.
My guess is they will be projecting the Death Star onto Spaceship earth. this would not be a permanent change. wouldn’t make sense being permanent with the Star Wars Land being over in Hollywood Studios
It specifically says that it’s being done with digital projections. Like these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YADbPYJNGOg
Star Wars fans will get a giant death star for one night, and you’ll have your beloved golf ball back the next day.
Every needs to relax; this article clearly says its one night only. Celebrating Star Wars and the release of Rogue One. It’s promotional, just like making the monorail look like light bikes for Tron. Disney owns a lot of franchises and they’re free to advertise and/or celebrate how they see fit. If it’s not for you, don’t go. It’s a fun idea and I’m sure they’ll come up with more. It’s a way to draw people to the park.
I worked at Epcot last night and was wondering what all the digital equipment was doing at the front of the park. Now I know! They were hard at work at midnight!
It’s, ahem, NOT PERMANENT, any more than that one night they turned Spaceship Earth into a giant Mike Wyzowski in time for “Monsters University”.
(C’mon, doesn’t -anyone- remember that one, or are we too busy believing Adam’s Last Photoshop Job completely?)
Comments for EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth to Become Giant ‘Star Wars’ Death Star at Walt Disney World!
Chris alveshire
I hope it’s not full. This would be an amazing end to our vacation!
Jan
I hope this is NOT a permanent change!
Not everyone is a StarWars fan. (Gasp!)
Richard
Even those of that are fans don’t want it shoved at us 24/7.
Roman
Geez, queue all the haters. How many Star Wars fans spend time at Epcot 24/7?
Hugh
Maybe he wanted all the haters to be put into a line. Then, it’s all good. 🙂
Arthur
There are probably a lot more Star Wars fans than Disney World fans.
Captain Rex
For gods sake it’s promotional for one night you illiterate Trekkie.
mary
I agree with you !! This better not be permanent!! Gosh!
Lee Ann
Is this real or rumor?
Liz
I feel like some of the people commenting did not read the article…

I can’t stand Star Wars and I’ll be so disappointed if they permanently change Spaceship Earth.
Captain Rex
Star Wars is awesome I would be so happy with a perminate change. Too bad it isn’t.

Seriously people, read the article before commenting.
Victor
Because nothing says “Disney” like a fictitious mass murdering weapon
Pastor Rich
Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant, next to the power of the force.
Hugh
Don’t try to frighten us with your sorcerer’s ways.
Captain Rex
Nice quote.

OMG! PLEASE say it ain’t so…… Not everyone is a star wars fan. I adore it just as is…..Wheres Walt when all these silly decisions are being made.

It’s not a golfball, it’s a geodesic dome. 😉
Alan Smithe
I hate to tell you, but Walt’s frozen underneath Disney World, bruh.
Also, read the damn article before getting your soiled panties in a bunch, idiot.
EricJ
Hate to tell you, but Ward Kimball made up the “Frozen underneath the castle” story to troll reporters.
Dick Gozinya
dead.
Captain Rex
Walt is frozen in some government facility.
Alan Smithe
Woah, calm down and go put some Desitin on your buttcheeks, bro. It’s only for one day, but apparently you lack any reading comprehension.
Kenneth
Half the comment or didn’t even read the article

Wow, first off it’s a digital projection, second, Star Wars has some of the best fans any series has ever gotten.
