Well, there was (or wasn’t?) rumors of Sophia Coppola being the perfect “teenage girl” director for Ariel a few years ago, but by the time the Funny or Die parody video came out, the project had been laughed off the map: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPT4bdo1kZw

Actually, the Sophia Coppola version wasn’t for Disney it was to make the Anderson version into a movie she dropped out and now it is being made by different company with a different director. Picture of Ariel were wrongly used in most articles because most people have never read the actual story.
