My boyfriend just told me there is a big rumor going around the Ryan Gosling fan community that he is going to be playing the Hat Box Ghost in a movie by Guillermo Del Toro. Apparently, Ryan and Del Toro were in Disneyland together and they went to the Haunted Mansion. This is supposed to be a scary movie about the Haunted Mansion. Do you know if this is true? My boyfriend is really excited because he loves Ryan Gosling and has a poster of him.
I’ve heard the rumors that Gosling will be in Del Toro’s Haunted Mansion movie, but I’ll admit that I have not heard anything about him being the Hatbox Ghost. I don’t know if it will end up happening, but I’ve heard from a number of sources. I would guess that Gosling is at least being considered for the movie.
Ryan Gosling is in talks for the movie. However, I can’t imagine he’ll be playing the Hatbox Ghost. Why cover him in prosthetics and makeup?
Del Toro said that his team has already developed maquettes of old Hatty over the face and body of Doug Jones (who has had a role in just about every Del Toro film, my favorite being Abe Sapien from Hellboy). If you ask me, Jones could pull it off, no problem.
I’d guess that Ryan Gosling is playing a human who stumbles across the Haunted Mansion, akin to Eddie Murphy in the original, though I’m sure we’ll be able to take him more seriously, as the movie is also supposed to be darker.

Ryan would not be slated to play Hattie…the actor cast (last heard) for the role in the Del Toro film is Doug Jones…
