Bob Iger just announced during The Walt Disney Company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders that a new Star Wars spinoff movie is coming, called ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’. This will be a standalone film and due for release in December 2016, staring the ‘The Theory of Everything‘ actress Felicity Jones, directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Oscar nominee Chris Weitz. Rogue One is the title for the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga.

Filming starts in London this summer and Gareth Edward will be in charge of this upcoming film.

Iger also announced that ‘Star Wars Episode VIII‘ will be released May 26th, 2017 and Rian Johnson will direct and write it. Together with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, this will give us three years of Star Wars movies to look forward to.
