While I do think this is cool that they are doing it at Wizarding World, it isn’t new technology. There is a company called MagiQuest that has some stand alone locations are some locations in Great Wolf Lodge locations that does the same thing. I’ve been playing MagiQuest in Myrtle Beach and Pigeon Forge since 2007! It is really fun though, and I look forward to seeing how they use it in relation to the Harry Potter stories!

I’m just wondering how it’s going to work when it is packed with tons of people and then all the general noise that comes along with that.

Exactly. Also, I can envision those animated pieces just running continuously, with the presumed throngs of people passing by with magic wands all day long. I wonder what maintenance will be like.
Very cool though – love all of these little interactive features that allow you to become part of the story, and less of an onlooker.

I went to hogsmeade the other day and only one of the windows was running continuously the rest generally worked at some point in the day however they were really iffy on when they were or weren’t working.

    2. I would guess exactly the same as similar things in the Magic Kingdom (Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom) and Epcot (Agent P). I’m sure they stuck them somewhat out of the way of normal traffic flow.

My only question is do you need a special want to activate it or not? My wife bought a wand there last year, but obviously they didn’t have this yet.

Yes, you need to purchase an interactive wand – $45.

My boy was dying to get a wand that would light up or something, and they only had the “collector” wands that are very fragile. He’s very excited about this new kind.

Wands that really work…even for Muggles! Mr. Ollivander is gonna make millions of galleons off this!

It is a great addition to Diagon Alley, and I am glad they are adding it to Hogsmeade too, but wish they could have added some NEW interactive locations there, instead of converting the existing animated areas to work only with the wands. Mainly because it kinda sucks if you don’t have a wand and miss out on some of those cool animations. That was one of the highlights for me when I was there.

They did update some of them to be new.

How much for the wands, I wonder…

I bought a “Voldemort” wand some weeks ago… Does anyone know if my wand will be able to make the “magic”? Or are there/will be NEW wands that have a sensor or something like that?

    1. Ricky Brigante

You’ll have to buy a new wand.

Hey will the interactive wands be versions of the character wands or be designed unique? Will there only be one option of what it looks like or do you know if there are options to pick from?

    1. Ricky Brigante

      Character wands.

all the wands at olivanders are interactive, character and non-character

Update: just found this on baynews9.com:

“We were told by Universal workers that the new interactive wands will slowly replace the original wands in Ollivanders. Right now they only have the Celtic calendar wands and the character wands for Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Professor Dumbledore. They are about $40 each.”

Is this what you saw there too, Ricky?

Just got back with my 2 kids, Hannah and James who both have wands now after spending most of our visit to universal waving wands at windows and fountains, my kids have found it to be the best feature in the universal empire.
Great fun, will have to look out for other stuff they can use them on when we return to England

I have to report we just got back from our trip to Universal, and both of my girls have interactive wands now. These are not the remote control wands you see for sell. They are just the interactive ones that we thought you could use just at the park. Some how they change the channels on the television when you stand near the television and move the from left to right. We just happened upon this, my husband was watching the football game and the girls were both playing with their new wand and the television started changing channels with the movement of the wand. I am sure it has to do with the sensor in the wand, but it was pretty cool. 🙂 It worked at the hotel and then it also worked when we got home.

Question: My kid bought the wand at Universal Studios and it was a lot of fun. But now at home can he use it as a remote control? can he use his magic wand to control the TV at home? or other infrared appliances? thank you

will the wands purchased at Great Wolf Lodge work at Harry Potter World? is the same technology?

    1. Hanna

Did you get an answer to this question? That is what I want to know!

Same question about Great Wolf Lodge wands working at Harry Potter World?

Are there interactive wand locations at Universal Studios Japan? Can a wand bought in Orlando work in Japan?
