ScareLA to summon Halloween fun early with first-ever Los Angeles haunt convention in August, opposite D23 Expo

in Entertainment, Events, Universal Studios Hollywood

Fans of Halloween Horror Nights and other popular haunts will have a chance to experience a taste of the spooky holiday more than a month before those events begin.

A new convention called ScareLA is planned as the first in Los Angeles dedicated exclusively to celebrating Halloween. It will take place in downtown LA on August 10 and 11, 2013, the same weekend Disney’s D23 Expo will be held in nearby Anaheim. Fans of both styles of themed entertainment will have to decide where to split their attention as ScareLA promises two days packed with presentations, panels, performances, and behind-the-scenes looks at haunted attractions.

Among the special happenings planned for ScareLA are:

  • Curated collection of exhibitors showcasing scary goods, services & job opportunities
  • Expert and celebrity panels on the haunt business, horror entertainment and more
  • Presentations of top and upcoming local haunts with sneak peaks and unveils
  • Performances by local horror themed theatre companies and musicians
  • Professional demos of makeup, set building, costume creation, animatronics and more
  • Hands-on workshops taught by top haunt industry professionals for all skill levels and ages
  • There will also be an onside mobile haunt park and planned lights-on tours of local attractions, along with other games, pumpkin carving, and a costume parade.

Notable special guests presenting at the event include Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights Creative Director John Murdy, Garner Holt of animatronics-producer Garner Holt Productions, legendary yard haunter & monster prop collector Bob Burns, “Paranormal Activity” producer and creator of the Blumhouse of Horros Jason Blum and many other haunt owners and designers.
