More than 56,000 runners are participating in this Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, a record-setting number of participants. The marathon weekend features a 26.2 mile journey through all four Disney theme parks – Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, including a new relay option that gives runners the opportunity to pair up to split the race and receive a special Chip and Dale medal. To commemorate the 15th anniversary of the half marathon, all finishers will be awarded a one-of-a-kind Donald Duck half marathon medal.

Amidst the thousands of runners joining in this morning’s Half-Marathon were a number of popular and rare Disney characters located throughout the course, waiting to give high-fives and take pictures with those willing to pause for a few moments before continuing.  In addition to Ludwig Von Drake, characters included Scrooge McDuck, Buzz Lightyear, Stitch, Rapunzel, Flynn Ryder, Louis the Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen, Villains, Meeko, The Incredibles, Aladdin, Darkwing Duck, Launchpad McQuack, Mickey Mouse, and many more.

Here are a few character pictures posted on Twitter throughout the event:

Often confused with Scrooge McDuck, Ludwig Von Drake is definitely a rare character, available to runners for pictures this weekend.

Scrooge McDuck was indeed there too. In fact, he became the 10,000th customer of the Yum Yum Cupcake truck, posing here with one of its owners.
Keeping with the duck theme, the terror the flaps in the night, Darkwing Duck, was also in attendance, posing in front of a Lamborghini from the new Exotic Driving Experience at the Walt Disney World Speedway.

Pilot to both Scrooge McDuck and Darkwing Duck, Launchpad McQuack crashed the party too.
Mary Poppins ,Bert, and penguins aren't rare at Disneyland, but appear far less often out here in Orlando.

It wasn't only actual Disney characters that showed up. Some runners dressed as their favorites, including this pair tweeting a photo of themselves dressed as the Tweedles from Alice in Wonderland.

Runners dressed as the Three Caballeros were spotted crossing the finish line.
