Comments for Jaws ride to close at Universal Studios Orlando, replacement rumors include Harry Potter expansion

i hope it isn’t true about getting rid of the lost continent!

    1. Scott B

Why? Lost Continent is pretty pointless. The best thing it had going for it was the Dueling Dragons and that got cannibalized by HP.

The only thing I would be sad to leave at the Lost Continent is Mythos, because it is a great place. But I just don’t see how they could work it in if they got rid of the lost continent.

      1. hey i love the lost continent

the whole area of the lost continent is one of the best parts of the park. From sinbad to the fountian of insults. Everyone is bound to have a laugh. There are only two shows universal has that i love one of them happens to be sinbad.
If you sit on the wall by the fountain there is no way possible that you wont laugh at the acts the fountain does to people

  2. Boog nasty

    “Jan. 2, 2011”

    You mean 2012.

    1. Ricky Brigante

      Typo. Fixed. Thanks.

    2. Riley Logan

Godd thing you told him because if jaws did close on jan. 2 2011 it would have benn closed already

  3. OT

It´s like Disney announced the closing of Jungle Cruse.
I hope they trash the horrible Fear Factor show thing also because that´s something I never ever want to see again.

  4. Troy

At first, my mind wanted to dismiss the HP rumor but the more I think about it, the more genius I think it is. Let’s face it, Universal Studios needs something to make it more interesting and I really love the idea of linking the two with the Hogwarts Express especially since most of us thought it was a waste to not have one and only have the standing model they use today. To be honest, Lost Continent needs to go as well. It’s definitely one of the best themed parts of IOA but other than the fact that it looks really cool, there’s nothing interesting to do there. It’s the most natural area to be replaced with a Potter expansion but I’d be ok with both things happening. But that’s just me.

  5. Scott B

This….this is the most depressing news I have heard in awhile.

I love Jaws. It is my favorite movie of all time. I can easily recite Quint’s speech on the U.S. Indianapolis to anyone willing to listen (and no, I can never find anyone willing to listen). I love the ride so much. For nostalgic reasons, it is my favorite ride of all time. This just bums me out.

The ride was important because it is a reminder of Universal Studio’s original idea of riding the movies. That idea is getting further and further away.

    1. Don C

I totally agree. Rides like Jaws and King Kong were the ones that made Universal different from the other amusement parks. I’m disappointed my kids won’t be able to enjoy it when we head there in March.

      1. Josh

Well, there will still be some sort of tribute left to Jaws.

    2. Kathryn

this is depressing for me to.. i just saw this today. I havent been there in like 5yrs but this sure was my favorite ride. And ill listen to ur speech (:.

    3. Ansley

      Right On!

  6. steve a

Jaws was getting a bit long in the tooth, but Disaster(appropriate)should have been destroyed way before it. Disaster is the worst ride/show I’ve ever seen. It makes the Stitch ride/show look like a classic.

  7. Wild Old Dan

    Howdy Pards,

Of course, of course…this is a natural! Don’t you see? Diagon Alley is not in Hogsmeade…it’s in London…and so is Kings Cross Station. Amazing, wonderful, incredible, spectacular things are about to happen…The Leaky Cauldron! A brand new Ollivander’s Wand Shop! All the wonderful shops and stores of Diagon Alley…and everyone’s dream GRINGOTTS BANK and a trip into the mysterious depths of the caverns below on a roller coaster like no other.
Goblins galore! Dragons! Then…Kings Cross Station…Platform 9 3/4s…and a real, honest to gosh journey on the Hogwarts Express! THIS
IS THE STUFF DREAMS ARE MADE OF! The lines at Universal are once again gonna stretch for miles and miles… And, with STUART CRAIG and his creative team once again involved…we can expect 100% loyalty to J.K. Rowling’s vision. As to that big fish from long, long ago…let me ask what has breathed new life into Universal…that fish…or that wizard?
Harry Potter fans know the answer to that…and so does everyone else.
Wonderful, wizarding stuff is about to happen…again! Get ready for somethin’ truly magical!
Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail. Wild Ol’ Dan

    1. frostysnowman

Well, when you put it THAT way, the potential sounds way cool.

But I will miss the Amity area; I like its themeing a lot.

    2. Nate G

okay…harry potter already has enough space, jaws is wayy better for families and people who are not from orlando. im pretty sure without jaws, universal wouldnt be as big as it is today.

      1. Josh

lol, I was there Saturday, just two days before closing and the line was next to none. It may of been, but no longer. It deserves to be remembered(but less space).

        1. Mandy

We were there 1/02/12 and waited over an hour to ride JAWS. It was crazy, our Skipper did an amazing job and really gave the classic ride his all. It’s sad to see the old ride going, but nice to see progress. We also ended up waiting 2 1/2 hours to ride Potter. I can say that in the early part of the day many of the rides had less than a 15 min wait time, but Wizarding World was packed as soon as the park opened. We were just saying that it either needed to be expanded, or somehow opened up so there was more walk space. I would love to see more Wizarding World stuff open, but would also be open to something new and different. We would also like to see MIB updated for the new movie, and maybe updated to a bit more hightech.

      2. cuteabug

Amen to that! I hope that E.T. doesn’t go, that one is also better for families than Harry Potty (Potter) or Transformers.

  8. SarahTerra Jernigan

    My heart just shattered into a million pieces, I’m only eighteen and the Jaws movies were a generation or so before me, but this is heart breaking. I’m obsessed with the Jaws movies and Jaws is my most favorite ride. D;

  9. Evan

Its probably a ploy to get you to pay the premium to get the duel ticket for both parks. Forgetting about the “worlds” if they put a stand alone Potter attraction on the Studios side, people will HAVE to get the deluxe two park pass.

    1. Precisely. From a business POV, it’s genius. Doesn’t speak at all to the classic film fan in me though.

  10. 420band

This is sad news for sure, I think the Harry Potter thing is bogus! they wont do that. they have enough of that rubbish at IOA. anymore and it’ll be a “HP Studios” and not universal. Jaws was the ONLY ride I cared about when this park opened. I’m a annual passholder and still love to ride this attraction, SURE it’s old but it still thrills, unlike the crappy Simpsons Ride (screen looks like a drive-in theatre’s , dull, lacking color)Disaster, and Twister ones that are newer. I agree they need some zip in this park but not Jaws man……..not Jaws! guess I have to give it a proper farewell when i visit in a couple of weeks. 🙁

    1. Andy

I can agree with you. I come down to Florida a few times a year and always look forward to going on jaws. only problem is alot of the time it is down and jaws tends to ” sleep on the job”. hate to say it but it was time for this ride to go off into the sunset. I do think it would be pretty cool if they some how put some of the props in the new area showing what once was. it was a great ride from day one when US opened. But times change.

      1. Josh

Its fun. I rode it over and over, even into the new year (seriously), but only because its no where near as popular as it use to be. Its time to go.

  11. Robert Travis

Yes this is another sad day for theme park fans who enjoy the original vision of these parks. Not only Universal but the Disney parks as well (Avatar in Animal Kingdom instead of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Fantasyland like rides instead of educational rides at EPCOT). Universal should update yes, but the attractions they choose are the better signature attractions. Back to the Future, Earthquake, why change it to Disaster? The theme was strong as Earthquake and educational but is to flimsy and silly as Disaster. All of the attractions that taught you how movies were made are gone at Universal and Disney. It used to feel as if you were in a real working film studio. Now it is like an old shopping mall that had all the national stores leave and let flea market type stores in. Jaws as well as Back to the Future should have been updated not closed. Before long there will not be any attraction based on a Universal film. I would have kept King Kong and updated it to match the new movie and did The mummy in IOA. These are the type of changes they need to do. What movie is the Rockit Coaster themed on? I understand updating but keep the original vision. Keep Universal, Universal. Not Warner or Fox. Sorry this is long but I have witnessed these parks becoming there own worst enemy for ten years now. It is sad to see and pay to see. Please VISION becomes the THEME and the THEME supports the VISION. Thank You

    1. Josh

I like seeing the movies come to life. Thats what makes Universal so great, and I see no reason to stick with only their films.

      1. Emma

I completely agree. As part of the younger generation i couldn’t relate to rides like jaws and back to the future and the rides need to keep up with the movies of the time.

    2. Very well said Mr. Travis. They need to remember the classic rides and the movies they are based on, are what drive all of parents, grandparents to bring our family and friends to experience the original rides we all remember fondly. Bring back Jaws, King Kong and Back to the Future!!!! Not everyone is enamored with Harry Potter as the main draw!!!!!

  12. Robert Travis

    P.S. (from above),
I was there at Universal Studios and Disney MGM Studios on opening day. Those days were some of my greatest memorys. After family of course. I just feel sad to see it sell out by straying away from what it should have become. Thanks Again.

  13. Robert Travis

P.S.S. (something I meant to say),
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is done very well and works were it is (in the surrounding landscape) but not where Jaws is. Architecturally it does not fit the surrounding landscape. No flow from the other parts of the studio to it. It would be like setting Disney’s Cinerella’s Castle there. Does not flow no transition. Sorry Venting.

    1. tomas

I totally agree with u robert, the enviorment in kaws is sooo much differnet than the landscaping at the wizarding world of harry potter, actually i find it almost impossible to build a train in the middle of all those buildings…. maybe it’s just another expansion but, don’t you think it is too far from the wwohp??, honestly i don’t think they’ll make an expansion there .The best place to expand is the lost continet which actually look AWFUL, it looks soo obsolet, and there is no more innovation in this island.. i really hope they get rid of that island.

      1. Josh

To be honest. I think a bridge would have to be built.

        1. Josh

Also, I think the Poseidon area would be better than Continent. Its huge.

  14. S Jo

This was an incredible ride. I really feel for the skippers, though. Spieling attractions have such a family-atmosphere. Now they’ll all be relocated to other attractions. “Watch your step.”

Very sad news. Lets get a high-quality recording of the entire film preshow, please. That’s a keeper.

  15. EricJ

I’m rather confused that the two are not even in the same park, let alone adjacent to each other–
I’m guessing it’s more a matter of the Jaws attraction getting too “old”, or maybe not getting a relicensing from Spielberg, who always personally found it dated and embarrassing. (And the E.T. ride is still up, isn’t it?) Yes, and yes, but it’s just ICONIC for the east coast Universal Studio Tour experience.
Like certain, um, submarines, water-and-mechanics rides are very difficult to maintain in central Florida, so they may be looking for something a little newer and less-maintenance.

(At this point, hearing “New Harry Potter?” is the Universal equivalent of the fan knee-jerk “New E-ride at Animal Kingdom?” or “New Monsters Door Ride at Tomorrowland?”) 😉

  16. EricJ

(In fact, a better rumor would be that the new 3-D Kong–which requires a lot of space, some in-ground mechanics and some tour transportation–is a HUGE hit at the Hollywood park, and fans have been crying for the old Kong to come back to Orlando…)

    1. Ricky Brigante

I agree, the rumors above are rather far-fetched. But rumors they are. And Kong would be a welcome addition, particularly if it was an improved-upon version of what’s in California.

      1. EricJ

Yes, but I hadn’t gotten as far as reading about the Spielberg “Transformers” ride, and…okay, that would explain a few things.
(Spielberg reportedly HATED the Hollywood Jaws ride becoming a campy amusement-park icon, and when one insider director once made a YouTube anti-Universal stduio satire, Spielberg himself appeared in the short as a nerdy Jaws tour guide doing the spiel. If anybody knows what I’m talking about and can find that short, let me know the link. 🙂 )

        1. Josh

I can see why Steven S. would be against it. Its a horror film turned fun.

    2. Andy

I would also say they are building the transformers 3d ride in cali. That would also be a great fit to the orlando area.

  17. Kyle

This is the one ride I liked in Universal Studios. Now that this is gone I don’t know what to think but I know they are screen crazy at universal creative. Simulators, screens in Mummy, and honestly I think Transformers would be annoying but if it is confirmed it could mean time is ticking on universal and marvel which could mean big things in 2025 for Disney.

  20. JP McPhillips

well leave it to Universal to remove another beloved attraction, they did it to us once before when they got ride of Back To The Future, and now with Jaws. This is why Universal will never be close to Disney, Disney expands and gives new attractions, and updates old favorites. Universal does the opposite they demolish old classic rides and replace them. That is not to say that Disney never gets rid of old rides, but Disney’s main classic attractions people love are still going strong. In my humble opinion this is a huge mistake on Universals part, even if they do put a new Transformer ride in there.

  21. Raleigh

It’s sad to see this ride go, but it was inevitable considering how much money it cost Universal to keep this ride up However, I’m sure whatever will replace it will be very interesting.

My money is on either a Fast and the Furious ride, or something to do with Lord of the Rings.

  22. Michael

I never rode Jaws but I can say I would miss it. Jaws looked like a run ride that I would have loved to have gone on.

I do wish that Universal do NOT turn into the Hogwarts Express like in the article. That is a BAD idea. I know they want to expand the Wizarding World but doing it in BOTH parks when they are a stone’s-throw away is overkill.

I can deal with Avatar in Animal Kingdom unlike others because there are other ideas for Disney Hollywood Studios such as expanding Pixar Place with a Monsters Inc. themed coaster and their own Carsland. Also Animal Kingdom has room to expand, DHS does not or at least did not in 2007 unless you remove the backlot tour (which the Pixar Place expansion is rumored to take over anyway.)

  23. Matt

Why couldn’t they do something with the lame Fear Factor show right next to it? Jaws is one of the only few rides you can do over there over and over again, and is truely an awesome experience.

  24. Jordan

They should buy more land somewhere.

    1. Josh

      yeah, i agree. b

  25. missy

hey need to get rid of the simpsons bring back to the future back and make a fast and furious or transformers ride and also get rid of fear factor aswell i hate there getting rid of Jaws my nephew wanted to ride it when he got old enough to go to orlando now he will be disapointed

  26. Jolenia

Im heartbroken to see Jaws leave Universal. It was one of the staples of the park. And to hear the the Lost Contenant will be taken out too, even if it is a rumor hurts me even more. The worse part is that H. P. bull crap is pretty much taking over is horrific to me. Wasnt it enough that they tore down most of the park to put the disturbing ride that is there now? Come on. Might as well call it harry potter land. I soo love each park. U.St. and Isl. of Adv. All the memories I have there I go back to. I know its only my opion out of all the other h.p. fans. But I hope it is heard. E.T. is also a staple at the park. There is a reason the rides have been there so many years. Its a favorite of everyones. People like orig. Stay the same. If it isnt broken… Dont fix it. Think about.

  27. Alex

This is bull I grew up with jaws I rode more then hands and feet. Universal studios just forgot its origins.

  28. Dee

Where did king kong used to be? I llove jaws I would have got rid of ET if any. It’s really not ageing well. It’s a shame it’s losing it’s original feel. I think they built the rip rockit thing to try and keep people going to univ. stud. Rather than everyone go to IoA. But could have called it school of rock or Detroit rock city. I loved the mummy! Jimmy neutrons gone too been replaced with despicable me. think they r running out of ideas.

    1. Ricky Brigante

King Kong was where The Mummy is now.

  29. Stacey

This is the most horrible idea Universal has ever come up with. Jaws is probably one of the last original attractions there. I enjoyed it on my senior trip back in march 2011, and so have a lot of other people. If the rumor is true about a Harry Potter expansion, then I will never go there again.

I’m not a Harry Potter fan at all, but my friends are, and they were disappointed by the entire “Harry Potter world” that was built. The only good part was the roller coasters. Everything else was a waste, and now they want to take away something cool and fun, and replace it with more disappointment. That’s a shame. Jaws should stay, and Harry Potter should go. End of story.

    1. Josh

the roller coaster is the worst part, and its super fun!

  30. KatyChemical

This is such a disappointment. I’m going to Disney and Universal next week on vacation and it figures that they close one of the few rides I was anticipating at Universal. I am a huge Harry Potter fanatic and I really look forward to that but they should not eliminate the classic rides. First King Kong, now this. What a bummer.
This was one of their best rides and one of the only ones I do remember from when I went twelve years ago.

  31. Andy

this is why disney is so good at what they do. They build rides based on their own theme or based on stuff that is not going to die for another 30-40 years at least if ever. Jaws was and still is a great movie but ask a 14 year old and he is going to tell you it’s the movie I see on in the summer and it really does not scare me that much. Jaws you will be missed but if some of these rumors are true there are be things coming.

  32. Ian Williams from the broath

Really upset to hear about the closure of the jaws ride in orlando. Have been to orlando 4 times and keep going back to this ride. We are going back this September and am now quite upset to find out we can’t ride on one of Captain Jack’s boats no more 🙁 might need counselling

  33. Mike Baltz

I am not happy about this at all. This was one of my favorite rides of all time. I will no longer be going to Universal Studios because of their decision. All they care about is Harry Potter and renewing the park. I would rather go to their competitors and see the mouse.

  34. Kerry Hill

I can not understand why Universal are demolishing THEIR OWN classic films! Alfred Hitchcock went, Back to the Future, Earthquake, King Kong and now Jaws … in replacement for what could be more of a Warner Brothers film???
I just can’t get my head round why they aren’t using their own films instead of another company’s???
Bring back the UNIVERSAL CLASSIC films!!!!

  35. Brett

Jaws wasnt very fun to me. It actually was outdated and uninteresting, plus my skipper was always a really bad actor. I like the sound of more Harry Potter though…

  36. boo

Wow was I pissed off when I came here to ride JAWS..all the way from canada. Never been to Orlando before and have always wanted to go since I was little..was looking forward to this classic ride! Very very disappointed.

  37. Joey J

  38. Anthony E

I think I just died a little on the inside. I wish I had never gone onto youtube and looked up Universal studios videos today… The last time I went was in 2005 and it was probably the most enjoyable experiences I evr had, I was 9 at the time. The first time I ever went there was in 2003 and once I saw the shark I immediately jumped into my grandfathers lap and cried my eyes out. This was one of the best rides in Universal Studios. I honestly don’t understand why they would do this. This is horrible…

  39. Anthony E

Why can’t harry potter go screw himself and make another park completely devoted to harry potter and leave universal studios as is…

  40. Lotte

I went to Universal in 2010-October. I had an amazing time, went on the Jaws one and loved it. Went to Harry Potter world and Loved it.
Realised Back to the future got eaten by the Simpons ride and was horribly sad.

Anyway. As a Australian it’s so hard to get to these places and while I love whats there new stuff isn’t always bad, if you go you’ll always have the memories and your kids will have thier own and they’ll be just as fond as your are-just different stuff.

Whatever takes its place will blow us all away-face it, it is what Universal do. I my self am gunning for the Transformers ride-I think it would be utterly wicked. Plus, the fact My mother is taking my now 3 year old nephew to Universal/Disney when he’s 4-5-6(before grade one) means I’ve always got a chance for another trip.

I’m excited to see what they annouce will take up shop.

I have the Best memories of Cali Universal from 2000 when I was younger.

  41. niccle m

jaws was a good ride for its time but it was very out dated. The reason universal is so great is because they are always renovating and creating new and exciting things for their costumes to enjoy. This generation doesn’t even know about jaws and the line often had no wait time, why keep an attraction around that wasn’t drawing people in. I believe what ever they decide to do with it will be spectacular and above all of our expectations like everything else at the parks.

  42. wewew

If the rumors are true then Universal might as well remove everything else and just call it Harry Potter Resort. Seriously what is the big deal with HP? the movies suck!! Jaws will be missed.

  43. Mark beaumont

I cannot belive the jaws ride is closing my children of various ages have all grown up with this ride, it may be corny but it is FUN, the parks need to remember that this is why people come to the parks! It may not have been the best ride but it’s one of the ones I looked forward to and never missed on a visit, this is really sad news!

  44. Jeff Stringer

This just kills me. It really, really does. I have extremely mixed feelings about it. But I do have to recount what was said by Disney when they got all the hate mail after renovating the Pirates Of The Caribbean: “We appreciate your interest and fondness for the original version of the attraction, but we’re a business, not a museum.”
    Still sucks, though.

  45. Laura

I’m headed to Orlando next week just to visit the two universal parks. I noticed when I was playing around on the interactive park map that Jaws was gone. I was shocked, I thought..maybe they only highlight the “big” rides on the map..then I figured, well..that can’t be. Since, Jaws is, well..was..considering a “big” ride. I’m overall sad, but I do remember the last time I rode the ride which was back in 2008, there was literally no wait. When, a few years prior, you had to wait 1-2 hours.

Although I am sad, I am highly looking forward to visiting the new Harry Potter section of the Isl. of Adv. park. I have heard many great things. I don’t doubt that Harry Potter could expand into the original Universal park. From a business POV that would be an extremely smart move, I mean..how many visitors did Universal get just from Harry Potter alone since its opening? Probably more than in the last 5 years.

I believe the last time I was even in the Universal Studios park was 2007 or so. Ever since Isl. of Adv. has opened up, we have pretty much avoided it since it hadn’t had many updates in the last couple of years. I was never a huge fan of the King Kong ride. I felt it was a bit cheesy. I love The Mummy replacement. That ride is very exciting, it definitely gives you that Space Mountain (in-the-dark roller coaster ride at Disney’s Magic Kingdom) feel with the dark twists, turns, and sudden drops. Then again, I am a HUGE roller coaster junkie. Which is why we are going to both parks because of the new coaster at Universal Studios.

Even though I was looking forward to enjoying my beloved Jaws ride, I hope that something worth the loss goes in its place.

  46. Tiger Shark....A whaaaaat?

This saddens me deeply as both a huge Harry Potter as well as a JAWS fan. I love Harry Potter, I really do and the stuff they put together down in Universal really blew my mind. But, it does make me sad that it needs to knock out JAWS in order to expand. I think other rides, like perhaps the Disaster one, could go instead. The Jaws ride was just classic fun, and the Amity area was a tribute to classic cinema. I was all for the idea of building a full-scale Hogwarts somewhere we all could visit, but I didn’t know JAWS would have to be sacrificed. I liked the older technology as well; you could still really see all of the craftsmanship and invention that went into the ride; I prefer these types to the fast roller coasters or the simulators with just screens in them. I know its a new era and such, but it hurts me to abandon classics that made movies what they are today.

  47. Vanessa

I was very disappointed to hear today that while I was looking for JAWS attraction. Found out it is closed. I just booked a family vacation in orlando because of my 8 yr old is a jaws fan, and made our family vacation in Orlando in a week. What a disappointment. I mentioned it to customer rep who booked it and never mentioned attraction was closed…

  48. I Just read on Wikipedia that Rayman Origins The Ride will Replace Jaws!

  49. Kiera

    and im 12!

    1. Ansley

Jaws is a CLASSIC!!!’You can’t get rid of CLASSICS. My dream was always to work on that ride as a skipper and today that dream was CRUSHED!!! And they would h,ave wanted me to… I have acting experience. Harry Potter, although very much liked, is so overrated. if they want to make the Harry Potter World section of the park even BIGGER than they should just make it a separate park! Amity Island is a well-known and forever loved attraction. Instead, they should replace it with the lost continent. This is because the lost continent is NOT a classic or even as popular. This is an outrage!!!! Universal Studios Orlando is turning into to Harry Potter. Plus, the series Harry Potter is becoming because of new and more recent sagas that appeal more to the teen age group. Teens make up a big majority of the parks visitors. I am 14 and all of these big changes are making me not even want to go to USO!!! I hope they take comments like these into consideration for the parks’ future!!

  50. Paul & Tracey Soper

this was by far the best ride at Universal.. you only had to look at the queues for it to realize how popular it was. Its a bloody disaster and Universal may pay the ultimate price for it. Will the die hard fans who go to Universal Studios every year to see Jaws do the same for Harry Potter??

  51. Jaw's front tooth

I am sad”” I must move on now. Being Jaw’s front tooth I must say was a lot of fun. I scared all people from all over the world. You may remember me as the second front tooth from the center of Jaw’s teeth. “Oh woe is me”. What ever shall I do now? I guess I can be free to roam now. A free tooth, living the dream…. living the dream.

    1. Lou sir

      Jaws front tooth….Dumbest . Post . Ever.

    2. The Angry SharkSlayer

universal studios has enough F#CKING HARRY POTTER jaws is a piece of history its been around scence about 1985 harry potter was made in 2001.

      1. annoymous

I cannot believe this how can anyone get excited when they have closed down ET and Jaws which were probably the best rides there just so they can relace them with Harry Potter. I used to love the ET ride and Jaws ride. Back in the 90s when I visited the states they were the two main rides always used to go on. RIP peace old friends you were alwsays the best and you maybe gone but you will never be forgotten and your legacy shall live on.

        1. annoymous

On that note I also loved the King kong ride, ghostbusters and back to the future.

          1. Chandler

            E.T. Never closed.

        2. Anonymous

Jaws is amazing been on it loads cannot be replaced…. Best ride ever!!!! NO

I know right JAWS was a classic horror movie that they worked hard on Harry potter just uses LAME SPECIAL CRAPY EFFECTS! Thanks a lot for ruining the WHOLE PARK!!!!!!!! ))))):( JAWS was my favorite ride and now your trading it for some dumb 3D crap!!!!!!! Such a dumb decision

        1. Jawslover

Yeah I agree I hate harry potter didn’t they have anough space to have it I loved the jaws ride t was the first ride I went on when I was 8

          1. jawslover

I agree because i never rided it i wanted too

        2. mwave

I first went to that park in 2014. my dad said he rode it when it was open and said it sucked. but I still wanted to ride and harry potter is covering the park. I mean, harry potter this harry potter that! he is a freaking wizard. jaws is a classic movie. harry potter is dorky. I watched jaws 3 and now I am in the beginning of jaws 4 the revenge. now I wish jaws was real so it will eat the closers of jaws! 😉

  52. I am so excited i am going to florida , orlando this july for the first time and i am so excited about the wizarding world of harry potter , and now that theres going to be more is even more exciting i cannot wait :))

    1. Niamh :P

You willl Have A Ball .. Been There 3 Times and its acc the nest crk ever .. harry potter is unbelieveable! i wasnt a big fan going there and i am now! and dont forget to go on jussaric park river adventture its class 😉 xx

    2. lauren morley

ive been there 5 times and it is amazing you will have a great time

    3. John Doe

Oh stick it where the sun doesn’t shine! All you Harry Potter wanna be fans all excited while the rest of us normal people lose out on yet ANOTHER piece of history just to expand some retarded overweight teen’s fantasy world.
Magic isnt real, wizards aren’t real, wands and hippogriffs aren’t real. DX

      1. saoyoa

Well, SOMEONE didn’t get their acceptance letter to Hogwarts.

By the way, I’m not retarded, overweight, or a teen (25 years old). I’m sad I never got to experience Jaws, but that is how stuff goes. Look at Disneyland/World. They are ever changing and replacing their rides/shows. It’s sad, but it may not have received as much attention as other rides in the park plus maintenance could have been a female dog.

      2. Rob

niether was jaws my friend, no is E.T, men in black, the mummy, or anything that universal produces as they are all movies, that is part of the universal “magic” oh but i forgot magice isn’t real.

        1. Autumn

ive been going every year since I was two. im currently 22. youll love the park!

  53. Jordan

Worst decision ever. Potter is a tool. Jaws was the greatest. They’ve ripped the soul out of the Park for money alone. Disgrace.

    1. Day

It’s a business I work at universal and jaws was not attracting ppl anymore as it used to and it’s was more money to keep the ride then to get ride of it. If you had a business then you would understand its all about what the majority of guest want and that’s what’s popular now is potter so I feel they made a good choice

      1. John Doe

Oh bull, even if you do work for them, you’re a low grade employee, so don’t try to sound important. Replacing a classic piece of movie and park history for some expansion to an overweight gutter trash tart’s fantasy world is a disgrace

  54. John

Can’t believe Universal got rid of Jaws for Harry !! I just found out about this because I’m planning a trip to Florida this summer with my kids who are now at the age where they wanted to ride Jaws, and have been bugging me to plan Universal in our vacation. Seriously, if this was one of their requests, but it is no longer there, might have to look to do something else !!! My kids are NOT into Harry Potter !! they are more realistic than fantasy !!!! and I love that !!!

    1. Chessie

I grew up reading Harry Potter and I could not be happier that they are expanding it! But I was a little sad to hear that jaws was gone, I would NEVER get on that ride because sharks scare the Hell out of me because of the movies, but my parents and my older brother loved that attraction so I feel for them. It has not been confirmed that the jaws area is a part of the Harry Potter expansion though so I do not think you can say that is why they got rid of it. They were having some problems with the ride a few years ago so maybe it was just too much to take care of. I am sure that it is sad to see a big part of your childhood lost but that is NO reason to disrespect mine. The distaste you and your family have for Harry Potter is your loss. If you are really going to plan your vacation around this may I suggest Universal Studios California? They still have their jaws as far as I know.

      1. The Angry SharkSlayer

well me too but cmon jaws was a good ride i know by now its too late but they should think twice about it

    2. Steph

You wouldn’t miss much. The Jaws ride was always broken. It’s been open only once the four times I’ve visited the park. Over the span of a decade. Also the queue was virtually empty when I visited two years ago.

  55. Zac

This is not happening. They are two separate parks with two different admissions. How would they control guests between the parks? Stop and ask them to get out and swipe their ticket? Come on people, be logical here. Transformers: The Ride 3D Is what is going in there. Spielberg already hinted at that. They have already installed it at Singapore and Hollywood. Orlando is the next stop.

    1. Ricky Brigante

Disneyland accomplishes it with their monorail. Tickets are required when boarding from Downtown Disney.

    2. Florida

Zac is right what if you. Only wanted to go. To universal studios you wouldn’t be able to ride this attraction although I disagree that it will be a 3D ride they would of used disaster if they were going to make a 3D ride I don’t know we might be surprised and it will be a new thrill rides. Does anyone know when this attraction will be open??

    3. Steph

Not true. Transformers is going where Soundstage 44 used to be. Soundstage 44 occupied a space similar in size to the Transformers ride and demolished very suddenly.
By the way, Universal has already submitted the construction plans as required by Florida law. There’s a very large ride building, a long structure resembling a train platform, and multiple smaller buildings.
This blueprint is called Project 722. Multiple art directors from the HP series have mentioned that their newest project is 722. If this isn’t Diagon Alley and Gringotts, I’ll eat my hat.

  56. jamie

woooooooow. that was my favorite ride, and I am leaving tomorrow for florida. im soo sad now. 🙁

    1. The Angry SharkSlayer

me too me too I miss it so mutch

  57. Tim

I’d have to say that I do not agree with the rumored expansion of Harry Potter since the current Potter area is in Islands of Adventure and the Old Jaws area is in Universal studios. Both parks require you to pay an admission. there would be no way to link the two and figure out who paid for which park.

    1. Chandler

You would go through a turnstile at King’s Cross, and you would need a two park ticket.

  58. Kate

I think getting rid of Jaws is a huge mistake, I’ve been going 2 Florida for 15 years and love coming to Universal but it won’t be the same without Jaws. They got rid of King Kong another great ride not long ago. Whatever takes its place has got big shoes to fill.

  59. Dana

This really stinks! JAWS was awesome! The whole section was awesome. Why can’t people just leave things as they are! Stop adding 3-D crap all the time. The old stand-bys are better!

  60. Soraya

I can’t believe that Jaws is gone. Was one of my favorites!!!. First was King Kong…what’s next? E.T? Please stop making dissapear the big classics!!!!

    1. Steph

Jaws was always broken. I’m sorry but a ride that hasn’t aged well in entertainment value or physical condition is not going to remain.

      1. The Angry SharkSlayer

well now that its gone there is no porpose to go to universal next year> 🙁

      2. annoymous

The ride was never broke when I went on it but even if it did break down I am sure they soon fixed it as soon as they could as it was a popular ride so I wouldn’t blame the age of the ride because all rides break down even new ones.

  61. beatyqueen70

i was gon to take another trip bac to universal studios cuz i went last year but neva got to ride jaws but now itz gon so ima have to find sumthin else to do

    1. The Angry SharkSlayer

well you missed out on the glory and horor

  62. Ellacoreymummy

Seriously gutted jaws has gone love that ride. As much as i think harry potter is great i dont think they should of got rid of jaws for it. And i agree im fed up of 3d rides too the old classic rides are by far the best & the water rides are great. Shame ill never be able to take my kids on jaws we are going to florida next year & they wont be able to go on it 🙁 really hope universal somehow put it back into the park abit to keep its memory alive. They should of got rid of twister not jaws as its crap

  63. Hammerhead

I guess I will never be returning to universal with my family. Jaws can be shared for many generations, Potter not so much.

    1. Chandler

Fine then, never come back! One less person waiting in front of me for Despicable Me!

      1. Chandler

Jimmy Neutron doesn’t even air anymore, and neither do half of the shows that were on that ride. Plus, Nickelodeon Studios doesn’t even exist anymore… Also, why are you making fun of my name?

        1. sean p

i hate you i need my jaws in my life it was my warmt and comfort. I might as well just leave this earth…..

  64. alitalia

Super bummed about this !! King Kong, Jaws, Earthquake, E.T and the Beetle juice shows have always been favorites in my family, E.T. for myself especially, and I understand the need for new ideas and rides for new generations, but some staples need to remain because they are icons of the park. Stop erasing the classics ! Personally, I say get rid of Twister over Jaws… Just saying.

  65. OldSchool

So sad that Jaws, ET,King Kong & Back to The Future are no longer at Universal. Can’t they take a hint from Disney and keep all the old rides that so many of have fond memories of. Disney has new rides, but still keeps the old ones like It’s A small World, Peter Pan. It reminds all of us of times when we ourselves were young and saw everything for the first time and also when we were there with loved ones that may no longer be with us. What a shame!

    1. Chandler

You do realize that the only attractions that are still at Disneyland from opening day are the Fantasyland dark rides, the train, and the shooting gallery in Frontierland, right? The fact that a ride was there from opening day does not make it a classic. The Tiki Room,Jungle Cruise, Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, all of those rides that Disney would never get rid of… They didn’t exist when Disneyland first opened! Universal Orlando is very similar to the Disneyland Resort in California. At Disneyland, they DON’T have a ton of room to expand, so if they want to put in a new ride, it usually involves replacing something old first. Disney World has much more real estate at their disposal, but even they get rid of rides every now and then. The fact is: Universal is still evolving. Disneyland went through a lot of trial and error before coming up with the right mix of attractions, and Universal’s doing the same. I’m sorry, but Jaws is Adventure Through Inner Space… Not Star Tours. Jaws was fun while it lasted, but its replacement will be a million times better! Don’t blame Universal for replacing rides and then say that Disney doesn’t do that, because they DID do that, and sometimes, they still do.

      1. Chandler

        Also, ET’s still there…

        1. OldSchool

I was thinking of Disney World not Disney Land! I know that Universal is much smaller than Disney World, but Universal does not even look anything like it did when it first opened in FL and that is what I miss! Good for you, if you’re happy with it and don’t care!

      2. Day

Thank you chandler I could not say it better myself. What ppl don’t understand is that millions of ppl come to see Harry potter only a hand full of ppl now a days come to see the jaws ride compared to Harry it’s a business. And ppl that don’t have businesses don’t get that it’s what the guest want as a majority not what Tim or Betty wants to keep

  66. Justa notha disney lovah

Im so dissapointed, I have allways wanted to go on that ride. WTF are they gonna do with an E.T place or ANOTHER HARRY POTTER site at the park? WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO? ANSWER ME!! Not really, I just wanted to say that. ok I’m dodne this post
    -Justa notha Disney lovah

  67. loudandabnoxious

I’m really sad, I just turned 29 and have never experienced Universal Studios I always wanted to go on back to the future and jaws but now I’ll never get to go because my fiance told me he’ll never take me since they closed jaws and king kong.

  68. im so madd!

I want them to build more jaws rides!!! Ignore the fact that children drive ticket sales and most kids havent even seen jaws!!!

  69. No name

Jaws Is the best ride Harry potter sucks ass!!!

  70. Have you ever considered about adding a little bit
more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is valuable and all.

But think about if you added some great pictures or videos
to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and clips, this website could undeniably be one
of the greatest in its field. Excellent blog!

  71. Emma

Seriously not happy they have closed down this ride, I’m going with my partner for the first time next year and I was really looking forward to taking him on this, it’s one of my all time favorite rides, might have to boycott universal completely now for the atrocity, and I will ever even think of going again if it does in fact get replaced by more Harry Potter rubbish! The part they have in adventure islands should be more than enough! Universal you should be severely ashamed of yourselves!

  72. Jaws fan 54

Jaws was the best ride ever. That was one of universal’s biggest hits. Plus, Harry Potter isn’t owned by universal, its owned by WB. They should get their own theme paprk and stop ruining ours! At least we still have the jaws ride in japan. R.I.P JAWS. We will miss you. 🙁

  73. Jaws fan 54

Mabey i’ll boycott Harry Potter and universal.

    1. Rich

Jaws was without any doubt the best ride they ever had. All rides bring a smile, but Jaws was something else. There can never be an equal to it. I rode that ride 20 times in one day. It can’t be beaten. However, it was very old, was probably getting very difficult to keep it working and if the number of visitors was dropping, they couldn’t justify the expensive of rebuilding it, so what else could they do? A real shame, but I think they had no choice.

  74. Ahappyunicorn

Ok this is unfair. Jaws was one of the greatest parts of history. The ride was a way for fans to feel the way they felt when they saw jaws. I’m sure if all of you Harry potter fans out there had a part of your attraction moved, you’d be mad too! But this is the whole attraction! And even if the graphics weren’t good and stuff, people still liked it! It got almost 500 people a day riding it because the boat they road had a lot of room and it’s a 10 minute ride! 10 minutes isn’t that long that you have to get rid of the ride. And even the jaws statue, was that removed? People say it was and I haven’t looked it up yet but I will. People say the statue is worth like millions! If they got rid of the attraction fast, they probably got rid of the statue. : ( I went there 3 months after it closed. I was THIS CLOSE to riding it. I never new that now years later I would want to ride it so bad. When I went in April 2012, they still had the statue. Was it true I was one of the last oeople to stand with it and get a picture? I just thought it was cool… But now, it’s actually just perfect. I have the picture and it’s actually an awesome picture even tho I do look a little scared XD but seriously, I just want the jaws ride. I wish it was there…. : (

  75. annonomus

On my trip to usf in 2011 I did not know that the ride would be closing. Then in 2012 I saw it in the nees somewere. When I went back this year it didnt feel right to see a massave cunstruction site for Harry there.

  76. Scotty

I am so sad if it is closing it is going to be very sad

Nobody gives 2 cares about Harry potter jaws is way better I hate universal now……. and they also need to bring back to the future back and get rid of all of this harry potter BS!!!

  90. Hi there Dear, are you truly visiting this web site regularly,
if so afterward you will absolutely get fastidious experience.

  91. Eddie M.

Absolutely agreed with a lot of people, Jaws was the greatest and so was King Kong, earthquake and some others. I took my girlfriend who came from out of the country just to see those rides and came to find out that Harry Potter BS is there now, like it isn’t enough with some other 3d bs as well. Retarded stuff that Harry Potter BS…..unbelievable !!!!

    1. brody E.

I definitely agree that tearing down jaws was a bad idea. But that ride did cost universal a ton of money maintaining. I do agree that there were many other places they could and should have demolished, but hogsmead, diagon alley, and gringots have more then filled jawses shoes.

  92. Olivia

This is really sad . All the classic rides have been replaced of in the process of being replaced . Instead of taking out the good rides , universal needs to expand its land . My childhood is gone from universal . I will just go to disney world now lol

  93. chrs

I really don’t care about the Harry Potter because it should not be replacement of the jaws ride at all or if they do how about reconsidered it to remove the ride in to another location, then keep the ride Jaws how about that?

  94. Noooo!

I am just about to go to universal studios for the first time and I was so excited to ride Jaws!

  95. LeeAnn

I was just at The Orlando park today and was very disappointed that I was unable to experience the JAWS ride I did get to ride the E.T. Ride it was cool I think they should do a vintage section for all the old movies Jaws E.T. and back to future all oldies but good ones we are the people with the money not the 12 year olds morons!!!!!
