With just three months until haunt season begins, Universal Orlando has already begun teasing details for what’s in store for guests at Halloween Horror Nights 2011. With the launch of a small web site, Universal has revealed a bit of wagering and luck will be involved this year.
Given that it will be year 21, it seems this year’s Universal Orlando Halloween event will include a gambling theme – Blackjack… 21… yeah you get it.
With bloody Queen and Ace cards on a table held by a severed hand, Universal’s teaser web site for Halloween Horror Nights 21 reads: “Be careful what you wager… Because nobody beats the house.” The site then invites visitors to “Take a seat and test your luck at Halloween Horror Nights 21.” Not much more is known yet on the theme of this year’s event and how gambling, blackjack, or card games will tie in.
Though a press release about Halloween Horror Nights 2011 offers a few further details:
“To wait for luck is the same as waiting for death.” Are you waiting for Luck?
You are captivated by an intense desire to tempt fate. Your heart races. Your nails dig into your thigh. The taste of blood is on your tongue as you bite down on your lip. Your eyes shift wildly as you contemplate the risk. Desire seduces you…and you forget that the House always wins.
Luck will run out as you are consumed by Universal Orlando Resort’s Halloween Horror Nights 21. People from around the globe will be haunted by “the country’s best Halloween event” (Amusement Today) beginning September 23 at Universal Studios Florida. For 25 nights, screams will fill the darkness as guests discover their fate.
The words Luck and House have been capitalized and personified, perhaps offering a hint as to who we will see as the event icon(s) for Halloween Horror Nights 2011.
And given the theme of gambling, luck, and fate, it’s possible that past icon Jack the Clown’s old pal Chance might be lingering around the event this year as well, though that’s strictly speculation on my part.
The 2011 event dates have also been announced for Halloween Horror Nights 21, with 25 nights this year:
September 23, 29, 30, October 2, 6, 7, 9, 13, 14, 16, 19, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 30, and 31
Ticket information for Halloween Horror Nights 2011 has also been released on the site, including the new Rush of Fear pass, which we told you about back in February. Also on the site are vacation packages and discounts for Florida residents and Universal Orlando Annual Passholders.
Halloween Horror Nights Orlando is one of the United States’ preeminent haunted attractions, taking over the entire Universal Studios Florida theme park with frights and sounds. Each year Universal reinvents the event completely, with new haunted houses, scare zones, and live entertainment. Those details generally are revealed in August each year, but a few nuggets of information are likely to continue trickle out throughout the summer.
So while the world awaits Universal’s full reveal, let’s take a look back at last year’s Halloween Horror Nights, as Universal celebrated 20 years of Fear:
