The uber-popular Hyperspace Hoopla (HOOPLA!) has returned once again to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for Star Wars Weekends 2011 and it’s more impressive than ever. Each year the nightly stage show during the Star Wars-themed special event draws more and more people and this year Disney gave the show a huge upgrade by moving it to a new stage in front of the giant Sorcerer Hat. The stage allows hundreds to watch the show comfortably, awaiting the highlight of ever year’s performance: Dance-Off with the Star Wars Stars.
The theme of this year’s hilarious dance-off is rock music and the teams are simple. It’s the “Good Guys” against the “Bad Guys” as Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and other Star Wars baddies show off their stuff against Chewbacca, Ewoks, Queen Amidala, Ahsoka Tano, and more heroes of the Saga. In addition to a bigger stage, the show now sports plenty of loud pyrotechnics and a bright screen sporting graphics supporting each act.
Watch a video of the full 2011 Dance-Off with the Star Wars Stars as performed on May 21:
Songs featured in the “competition” section of the dance-off include AC/DC’s “Back in Black,” Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle,” Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” and Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” The show concludes with a rapid-fire compilation of contemporary hits featuring artists including Lady Gaga, Willow Smith, Cee Lo Green, and the Black Eyed Peas.
For quicker access to the best two dances from this year’s show, I’ve segmented them out into separate video clips:
