Just after the grand opening of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I sat down with several of the key players in the creation of the updated Star Wars-based ride to discuss how the project began, choices that were made along the way, and some of the challenges faced during the development and production of the attraction.
Interview: Anthony Daniels (C-3PO)
Actor Anthony Daniels played C-3PO in all of the Star Wars movies as well as in the original and new versions of the Star Tours attraction. We discussed his various roles as C-3PO for the Star Tours update, including donning that famous gold suit once more and lending his voice to the action-packed ride.
Interview: Imagineer Eric Jacobson
Walt Disney Imagineer Eric Jacobson began his career at Disney more than three decades ago and has since worked on attractions such as Toy Story Midway Mania, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. For the Star Tours update, Jacobson helped ensure that the story that was being told inside the attraction blended with the overall story of Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park. And in our chat, he took me back to where it all began.
Interview: Imagineer Kathy Rogers
In nearly 40 years of working for Disney, Imagineer Kathy Rogers has worked on projects including Expedition Everest and recent updates to the Hall of Presidents, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Haunted Mansion. For the Star Tours enhancements, Rogers served as show producer, pulling all the trades and talents together to create the new attraction. We discussed a few more technical details and challenges behind creating Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.
Interviews: George Lucas, Bob Iger, and Anthony Daniels
While I unfortunately did not have a chance to speak personally with Star Wars creator George Lucas or Disney CEO Bob Iger, Disney did supply us with short interviews with both, as well as more from Anthony Daniels. In addition, the video below follows them through the updated Star Tours queue and onto the ride itself.
