Tokyo Disney Resort reopened its Tokyo DisneySea theme park yesterday after weeks of closure following the devastating Japan earthquake and tsunami and excited guests celebrated at the debut of the theme park’s new show, Fantasmic!.

The 20-minute show takes place at night in Mediterranean Harbor and is similar to the same-named shows at Walt Disney World and Disneyland in the United States. Fantasmic! stars Mickey Mouse as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice and features scenes from familiar Disney films including Aladdin, Cinderella, Finding Nemo, and, of course, an iconic battle with Maleficent as a giant fire-breathing dragon from Sleeping Beauty.

There are differences between the Tokyo version of the show and its American counterparts. Fantasmic! at Tokyo DisneySea can be observed from all sides, not just the front, so designers had to ensure all guests had a great view. The show features inflatable projection globes rather than water screens and utilizes plenty of live fountains and fire effects.

With Fantasmic! now performed nightly and both theme parks reopened, there’s plenty of fun and entertainment to be found for guests visiting the Tokyo Disney Resort.
