When you think how carefully and deliberately Walt Disney planned the purchase of all this land for his Florida Project – and now the current administration just sell off parts of the family silver for a quick one-off buck…
NOBODY IS SELLING ANYTHING, BESIDES TAXES THERE WILL BE ASSOCIATION FEES AND THE LAND NO DOUBT WILL BE LEASED.
AT THOSE PRICES A LIMITED AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WILL ENJOY AND DISNEY WILL ADD MORE DOLLARS TO THERE BOTTOM LINE.
In all honesty, Walt’s original intention was to have a planned community residing inside the boundaries of the park. Of course this community was suppose to be more spaceage / futuresque and less luxury home, but other than that, this seems to be inline with his original intention.
Tis an interesting thing. I wonder if anybody left at Disney is brave enough to champion Walt’s original plans for an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow? It would be a wonderful thing to finally see Walt’s greatest dream come true. Ahhhh, but years have gone by now…so many of Walt’s original team have gone on ahead. And, instead of dreaming big dreams about the future…the current team has “other things” in mind…there is big money to be made in real estate. Remember Celebration? As I recall Golden Oak was the name of one of Walt’s movie ranches out Californy way… Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail. Wild Ol’ Dan
To be truthful, even if I was a multi millionaire I would not stay at a house when going to Disney. I wouldn’t remember staying in a gated community, but I do and always will remember staying at the All Stars Movie Resort and staying in the Wilderness Lodge Cabins with family! Wether I making $1 an hour or $1,000,000 an hour I will stick to the Disney hotel classics.
As beautiful as these houses are, I think Walt would be disappointed. He was about hometown charm, not luxury. I don’t think this is what Walt had in mind for his Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow, this is something that should be found in Real Housewives of Orange County. I always thought Disney was more inclusive, there is something for every one and they bring magic and wonder to everyone. Remember Walt declined a VIP tour of the World’s Fair to walk around with everyone else. I’d much rather see something more like what Walt dreamed of.
If you are a contrarian, this is the right time to do this. Disney knows what they are doing and this fufills a niche in the marketplace. As conditions improve, this may turn out to be a brilliant move. Conventional wisdom is rarely correct…
Susan, I think you are right. Disney surely did their research on the demographics. Studies show that at age 63, the average person purchases their last vacation home… and that it will be the most expensive vacation home they buy in their lifetime. We have a wave of baby boomers just starting to hit age 63, and this wave will only increase over the next 3-5 years. That will be just enough time to sell out the community.
I am sorry but I think this is a bit crazy. Walt Disney drempt of a world meant for families young and old to experience the magic in life, and this among many other projects (VIP tickets) have strayed from what the experience that walt drempt of was. It seems that no one is looking out for the average family. The family who can not afford expensive add on’s to their vacations (such as the waterpark and more option) or can barely afford to go to walt disney world. Walt disney world is meant to be the happiest place on earth correct? If that is true then should all guests not be treated with the same amount of magic and wonder no matter how much they can afford to pay? Whether they can afford to stay at the value resorts, or the deluxe villas we should all have an equal oppertunity to live in the place that makes dreams come true, let’s face the facts when they say they are hitting people from all price ranges 1.5Million + is not the average person’s allowance for a vacation home . This neighbourhood seems to me like an overpriced Celebration, Fl minus the small town charm that walt intended. I believe that the disney company has made great advancements in the last few years but they are trying to fix what is not broken. Please keep the resort as a place where everyone can come together and celebrate what all began with a mouse.

can you imagine the property taxes on those houses? does it come with a free lifetime pass to the parks?

Is it just me, or did anyone else notice that the location of the logo on the map is EXACTLY where Fort Wilderness sits today?
Ricky Brigante
It’s close by, but not exactly there. Ft. Wilderness isn’t leaving.
Jody
Forget the luxury homes – how about a retirement community???
