Actor Sam Claflin to play lead role in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

in Disney, Movies

It was only a few days ago that we told you of young french actress Astrid Bergès-Frisbey being cast to play a mermaid in the third Pirates of the Caribbean film sequel. Now, Disney has announced another leading role.

This time, it’s an actor by the name of Sam Claflin. He will play “a youthful missionary” according to Disney’s press release.

Claflin, from the United Kingdom, previously appeared alongside future Pirates co-star Ian McShane (Blackbeard) in the mini-series “The Pillars of the Earth.”

With Orlando Bloom not returning for Pirates of the Caribbean 4, it seems that Claflin will be filling the role of the young, attractive male lead to entice viewers to theaters.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” will film in Hawaii, Great Britain and Los Angeles beginning in June 2010.

Sounds ok, but I think the role of Blackbeard will make or break this
film. Hope they have Blackbeards ship “Queen Anns Revenge”.
And whatever they do, dont kill off Blackbeard. One thing I hated
in at Worlds End was Davey Jones getting killed off, and then Will
Turner taking his place. But whats done is done. Just hope that they
dont do something like that again.
