Disney World has several massive projects underway, and Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro just gave fans a closer look at what’s happening behind the construction walls.

With 2027 approaching, Disney is preparing to introduce new attractions, themed lands, entertainment, and resort accommodations across its Orlando property.

Some projects are already taking shape, while others still have plenty of work ahead before guests can experience them.

Now, D’Amaro has shared behind-the-scenes photographs revealing construction progress at several highly anticipated locations.

The images offer a rare perspective on Disney’s ongoing transformation, including one particularly impressive attraction that guests have been waiting years to experience.

Disney CEO Reveals Rare Look at Major Construction Projects

D’Amaro shared several photographs on Instagram on October 20, showing Walt Disney Imagineers and construction crews working on upcoming additions at Walt Disney World.

The photographs feature Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s newest resort development.

Rather than focusing exclusively on finished concept artwork, the images show actual construction progress, giving fans a better understanding of how these ambitious projects are coming together.

One photograph captures decorative carvings on a wooden pillar, featuring a layered flower surrounded by four leaf patterns.

Other images reveal much larger structures, including a colorful temple that will eventually welcome guests into an entirely new adventure.

Indiana Jones Temple Takes Shape at Animal Kingdom

D’Amaro shared photographs of the massive Maya temple being constructed for Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The ground-level images reveal reddish stonework, turquoise accents, and intricate architectural details. Scaffolding remains around the partially painted structure as construction continues.

Replacing DINOSAUR, the attraction will introduce an original Indiana Jones storyline.

Guests will follow Indiana Jones into a mysterious Maya temple near a cenote, where a passage leads to the Maya Underworld, guarded by a mythical creature named Tsukán.

Disney is developing Audio-Animatronics figures of Tsukán and Indiana Jones, modeled after Harrison Ford.

Imagineers have consulted archaeologists, anthropologists, and Maya experts to create the attraction’s cultural and architectural details.

The attraction is part of Disney’s Tropical Americas expansion. Disney originally announced the opening for 2027, although an exact date has not been confirmed.

Pueblo Esperanza Will Transform Animal Kingdom

The Indiana Jones attraction represents only one piece of Disney’s Tropical Americas expansion.

The former DinoLand U.S.A. area is transforming into Pueblo Esperanza, a fictional village inspired by communities throughout the tropical Americas.

The land will feature colorful architecture, gathering spaces, restaurants, and family-friendly attractions.

Among its biggest additions is Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, inspired by Disney’s Encanto (2021).

The attraction will take guests inside the Madrigal family’s magical Casita, where Antonio’s special connection with animals will play an important role in the adventure.

Disney is also developing El Carrusel de los Animalitos, a carousel featuring animals inspired by Disney and Pixar stories.

The village will include themed walkways, dining opportunities, and additional areas for families to explore.

Together, these additions will completely reshape a major section of Animal Kingdom, replacing its dinosaur-focused identity with an environment built around exploration, wildlife, and storytelling.

Monstropolis Prepares for Its 2027 Debut

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also preparing for a major transformation as Monstropolis nears its anticipated phased opening in 2027.

D’Amaro shared a photograph showing a crew member holding a tablet displaying concept artwork for Welcome to Monstropolis!.

The new entertainment experience will take place inside the Glob Theater, bringing characters from Monsters, Inc. (2001) into the developing land.

Monstropolis will also introduce a suspended roller coaster inspired by the film’s famous door-vault sequence.

The attraction will send riders through an elaborate environment filled with doors, recreating one of the movie’s most memorable settings.

Additional plans include Harryhausen’s restaurant and Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza.

Rather than opening everything simultaneously, Disney is expected to introduce Monstropolis in phases beginning in 2027.

However, specific opening dates for individual attractions and experiences remain unconfirmed.

Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge Moves Toward Opening Day

D’Amaro also shared photographs from Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge, the nature-inspired resort scheduled to open July 1, 2027.

The images reveal progress on interior and exterior construction, with Imagineers actively working throughout the property.

One particularly personal photograph shows two team members signing their names in wet concrete, apparently within a future seating area.

Located along Bay Lake, the resort will celebrate Walt Disney’s appreciation for nature through architecture and artistic details.

Its creative influences include the forests of Bambi (1942), the landscapes of Pocahontas (1995), and the wilderness of Brother Bear (2003).

The property will feature 967 accommodations, including studios, villas, and waterfront Lake Houses.

Disney World’s Next Chapter Is Getting Closer

D’Amaro’s photographs provide an encouraging look at the work happening across Walt Disney World.

From Indiana Jones’ towering temple to Monstropolis and Lakeshore Lodge, Disney is investing heavily in experiences that will reshape the resort.

While some opening schedules remain uncertain, the construction progress shows just how much Disney has planned for the coming years.

For guests planning a 2027 vacation, these projects could make their next visit look very different from their last.
