Universal Orlando Resort is facing another troubling situation at Epic Universe after an unexpected incident reportedly sent guests scrambling and forced one of the park’s biggest attractions to shut down.

The incident happened on Sunday, October 18, 2026, inside the queue for Stardust Racers, the high-speed roller coaster that has become one of Epic Universe’s signature attractions.

What started as a normal day at the theme park took a concerning turn when a ceiling fan suddenly fell from its overhead position, crashing into an area where guests were waiting to board the ride.

Videos and eyewitness accounts quickly spread across social media, raising questions about what happened and whether anyone suffered injuries.

While some witnesses initially suggested that the falling equipment narrowly missed everyone, another person claimed the fan actually struck a guest.

The situation reportedly prompted an evacuation of the attraction’s queue, and Stardust Racers remained closed for the rest of the day.

Now, questions are growing about the incident and what it could mean for one of Universal Orlando’s newest and most talked-about roller coasters.

Ceiling Fan Falls Inside Stardust Racers Queue

According to reports from WDW News Today (WDWNT), a ceiling fan came crashing down inside the Stardust Racers queue at Universal Epic Universe on Sunday.

The incident happened while guests were waiting to experience the popular roller coaster, which features two competing tracks and high-speed launches.

Social media creator Shane Mercier, known online as Station Tested, shared footage of the aftermath on TikTok.

His video showed the fallen ceiling fan lying on the ground between a wall and a railing inside the attraction’s queue.

One of the fan’s blades appeared trapped beneath the corner of the wall, while the rest of the equipment rested in the narrow space beside the guest walkway.

The footage also showed guests standing behind the nearby railing, giving viewers a closer look at just how close the fallen equipment was to an area normally occupied by visitors.

The fan wasn’t a particularly small piece of equipment, either.

Mercier estimated that it weighed somewhere between 20 and 30 pounds, although that figure has not been independently confirmed.

An object of that size falling from an elevated position could pose a serious safety concern, especially in a crowded theme park queue where guests have limited room to move.

Reports also indicated that the falling fan damaged a railing on an elevated work ramp.

That detail raised additional questions about how the equipment came loose and what happened as it fell toward the ground.

However, the exact cause of the incident remains unclear.

Witness Claims Guest Was Hit by Falling Equipment

One of the biggest questions surrounding the incident involves whether anyone was injured.

Mercier initially suggested that the fan missed guests when it fell.

However, another person who claimed to witness the incident shared a different account in the comments.

A TikTok user identified as @ballistickid16 said they were standing approximately four feet away when the fan came crashing down.

@stationtested 🚨 “A CEILING FAN JUST CAME CRASHING DOWN AT UNIVERSAL EPIC UNIVERSE!” Today, October 18th, 2026, we were standing in line for Stardust Racers when, out of nowhere, a ceiling fan broke loose and came crashing down, narrowly missing guests standing underneath it! And the craziest part? My Meta glasses captured the entire thing! Stardust Racers was also experiencing downtime today, but we don’t know whether this incident was connected. According to that account, the equipment did strike another guest.

The commenter also claimed that paramedics responded and treated the individual before Universal evacuated the queue.

Those details have not been independently verified, and the available reports do not establish whether the guest suffered an injury or required additional medical attention.

There has also been no confirmed information about the individual’s condition.

Still, the conflicting eyewitness accounts have added to the attention surrounding the incident.

While the original video shows the aftermath, it does not establish whether the equipment actually made contact with anyone.

For now, reports that a guest was struck should be treated as unconfirmed.

The incident itself, however, has prompted considerable concern because of where the equipment landed and the number of guests who could have been nearby.

Universal Reportedly Evacuates Queue and Shuts Down Coaster

The falling fan also appears to have caused a significant interruption to Stardust Racers operations.

According to WDWNT, the incident happened within a few hours of the attraction opening on October 18.

Following the incident, guests reportedly had to leave the queue as Universal addressed the situation.

Social media commenters claimed that the roller coaster remained closed for the rest of Sunday.

Historical wait-time information from Thrill Data appears consistent with those reports.

The tracking website showed no additional wait-time information for Stardust Racers after approximately 12:28 p.m.

While that doesn’t independently establish the exact moment the attraction stopped operating, it suggests that the coaster experienced a prolonged interruption around that time.

For guests visiting Epic Universe, the closure meant losing access to one of the park’s most popular attractions.

Stardust Racers regularly draws visitors hoping to experience its racing coaster design, making an unexpected shutdown particularly disappointing for anyone who planned their day around riding it.

Of course, the circumstances surrounding this closure were much more serious than a routine technical delay.

With heavy equipment falling inside a guest-accessible area, the immediate priority would have been keeping visitors away from any potential danger.

The reports do not establish what inspections or repairs Universal performed following the incident.

Reports Suggest Other Fans Were Turned Off

The response may not have been limited to Stardust Racers.

According to comments referenced by WDWNT, other ceiling fans throughout Epic Universe were reportedly switched off following the incident.

The alleged decision was described as a precautionary measure.

However, Universal has not been independently confirmed to have ordered a park-wide shutdown of ceiling fans.

If the reports are accurate, temporarily disabling similar equipment could have allowed staff to assess whether the problem involved one particular installation or something that warranted a broader inspection.

At this point, there is no confirmed explanation for why the fan fell.

Weather conditions may have been one possible factor.

WDWNT reported that Orlando experienced windy conditions on Sunday, although there is no evidence establishing that wind caused the equipment to detach.

The weather was also relatively cool for Central Florida, which could have made temporarily operating without fans more manageable for guests waiting outdoors.

Regardless of the conditions, the incident raises understandable questions about overhead equipment in areas where large crowds gather.

Theme park queues often include lighting fixtures, fans, decorations, speakers, and other installations positioned above visitors.

When one of those objects falls, determining what happened becomes especially important.

Stardust Racers Experiences Another Delay Monday Morning

The situation continued into Monday, October 19, as guests returned to Epic Universe.

The Universal Orlando Resort app listed Stardust Racers as “delayed” while the park was operating its early admission period for eligible hotel guests.

Stardust Racers does not participate in Early Park Admission, meaning the attraction wasn’t expected to operate during that early access window.

However, the delayed status suggested that the coaster might not be ready for its regular scheduled opening.

Epic Universe and Stardust Racers were scheduled to open to general admission guests at 10 a.m.

The report did not establish whether the delay was directly connected to Sunday’s falling fan or whether another issue was affecting the attraction.

There was also no confirmed reopening time included in the initial report.

For guests hoping to experience Stardust Racers, checking the Universal Orlando app for current attraction information remained the most practical option.

Incident Adds to Previous Stardust Racers Controversies

The latest incident comes as Stardust Racers continues to face scrutiny over several previously reported safety concerns.

Although Sunday’s situation involved equipment inside the queue rather than the roller coaster itself, the timing has brought renewed attention to the attraction.

Earlier in October, a lawsuit filed by a mother who alleged that her child lost consciousness and suffered injuries while riding Stardust Racers.

Other lawsuits filed previously also alleged injuries associated with the coaster.

Those allegations are separate from Sunday’s incident, and the existence of a lawsuit does not establish that Universal was responsible for the claimed injuries.

Stardust Racers also faced intense scrutiny following a fatal incident in September 2025.

Kevin Rodriguez Zavala died after experiencing the attraction, with his death attributed to multiple blunt impact injuries.

The final report concerning his death determined that no criminal acts had occurred.

That incident and the subsequent legal disputes have kept the roller coaster in the public conversation well beyond its popularity as a major Epic Universe attraction.

However, there is no established connection between those earlier incidents and the ceiling fan that fell inside the queue on October 18.

Each situation involves different circumstances, and Sunday’s incident will require its own explanation.

What Happens Next at Universal Epic Universe?

For now, several important questions remain unanswered.

It is unclear what caused the ceiling fan to fall, whether a guest was actually injured, and what steps Universal took to inspect the surrounding equipment.

The reports also leave uncertainty about how long Stardust Racers would remain affected following Sunday’s shutdown.

While eyewitness accounts and social media footage have provided a look at the aftermath, they cannot answer every question about what happened.

What is clear is that the incident created an unexpected disruption at one of Epic Universe’s biggest attractions.

For visitors, safety concerns involving equipment in a crowded queue can be particularly unsettling because guests generally expect those areas to be secure while they wait for their rides.

Universal has not been confirmed to have issued a detailed public explanation addressing the fan’s failure or the conflicting reports about a possible injury.

Until more information becomes available, claims about the cause of the accident and the extent of any injuries remain unverified.

As Epic Universe continues welcoming thousands of visitors to its attractions, the incident serves as a reminder that safety concerns can arise outside the rides themselves.

And for Stardust Racers, the latest disruption has once again placed one of Universal Orlando’s most prominent attractions at the center of an uncomfortable conversation.
