Disney’s newest version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster hasn’t even made it through its first year before another major change.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets officially brought The Electric Mayhem into Disney’s Hollywood Studios earlier this year, replacing the longtime Aerosmith version of the attraction. The coaster may be new, but Disney is already preparing to temporarily replace the experience guests have gotten used to.

And this isn’t simply a different song playing during the ride.

Beginning November 4, Disney will roll out a limited-time version of the attraction with different music, seasonal additions, and changes that begin before guests even board their L.I.M.O.

The regular Muppets experience will return eventually, but anyone visiting during the holiday season is about to find something very different waiting inside.

Disney Replaces the Regular Muppets Experience November 4

Starting November 4, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets will temporarily become Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay.

Yes, that is really the name.

The limited-time version will remain at Disney’s Hollywood Studios through January 6, giving guests just over two months to experience the seasonal takeover.

That means the regular version of the coaster will effectively step aside for the holiday season before returning after the overlay ends.

Disney has used seasonal attraction overlays before, but this one is particularly notable because the Muppets version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster itself is still so new.

Instead of waiting years to introduce a seasonal variation, Disney is giving The Electric Mayhem its first holiday makeover only months after the band took over the coaster.

And the changes won’t be limited to what happens after launch.

The Holiday Changes Start Outside the Attraction

Guests should notice something different before walking through the doors of G-Force Records.

Disney plans to add festive music around the attraction’s courtyard and guitar marquee, immediately setting up the holiday concert storyline.

Once guests head inside, the story continues.

Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd, Janice, Zoot, and Lips are preparing for a holiday spectacular. Naturally, things aren’t going exactly according to plan.

The Electric Mayhem is busy rehearsing its seasonal set while other familiar Muppets attempt to help get the band ready for the show. The result keeps the chaotic Muppets humor at the center of the attraction while giving the existing storyline a holiday twist.

That setup leads guests toward the coaster itself, where one of the biggest changes takes over.

Four Holiday Songs Are Coming to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Music has always been one of the defining pieces of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and the holiday overlay will change what guests hear during their high-speed trip.

Disney says The Electric Mayhem will bring four holiday-inspired tracks to the attraction, including collaborations with special guests.

The announced lineup includes “Holiday Road” featuring Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” featuring Jennifer Hudson, and “Silver Bells” featuring Cyndi Lauper.

That should make repeat rides especially appealing during the holiday season.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has long benefited from the unpredictability that comes with different songs, and the seasonal playlist gives guests another reason to ride multiple times during the limited run.

It also gives Disney a relatively easy way to make the coaster feel substantially different without changing its track or fundamental ride system.

But the attraction’s newest character addition will still have an important role.

Scooter Is Trying to Keep the Concert on Schedule

The Muppets version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster introduced something the Aerosmith attraction never had: a Muppet Audio-Animatronics figure.

Scooter appears inside G-Force Records as he tries to get The Electric Mayhem moving before their increasingly impatient fans have had enough.

Disney created the first-ever Scooter Audio-Animatronics figure with help from motion-capture technology. Imagineers recorded the performance of the actual Scooter Muppet and used that information to help program the figure’s movements and expressions.

For the holiday version, Scooter once again finds himself trying to manage a band that isn’t particularly interested in sticking to a schedule.

He’s joined by penguin audio engineers as he attempts to convince The Electric Mayhem to stop rehearsing and actually get to the concert.

It’s a storyline that fits particularly well with the holidays. Disney doesn’t have to completely reinvent the attraction to make the seasonal version work. Instead, the existing frantic race-to-the-concert premise becomes the foundation for a Muppets holiday disaster.

Disney World Is Leaning Into Holiday Ride Overlays

The change also adds Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets to Disney World’s collection of attractions that can offer something different during the holidays.

Seasonal changes can be especially valuable for returning visitors because they make familiar attractions worth revisiting.

Rather than simply adding decorations around Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney can make the holiday celebration part of the attraction itself.

For Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, that concept makes plenty of sense. Music already drives the experience, and The Electric Mayhem gives Disney a group of characters that can easily adapt to different concerts, celebrations, and seasonal events.

The November 4 debut could therefore be more than a one-off experiment.

If guests respond well to the Obligatory Holiday Overlay, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster could become an attraction Disney regularly changes for the holidays, much like other seasonal experiences around Walt Disney World.

For now, however, Disney has only confirmed this limited run.

The Regular Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Won’t Be Gone for Long

Guests who prefer the normal Muppets version shouldn’t panic.

Disney isn’t permanently replacing Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets only months after its debut. This is a temporary holiday takeover scheduled to run from November 4 through January 6.

Still, the change creates an interesting situation for anyone visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios over the next several months.

Guests visiting before November 4 will get the standard version. Holiday visitors will encounter an entirely different seasonal concert. Then, after January 6, the limited-time overlay is expected to disappear.

That gives Disney fans a relatively small window to experience the attraction in this form.

And considering Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster spent decades largely sticking with the same basic Aerosmith concept, seeing Disney already willing to experiment with the Muppets version could be a sign of how differently the company plans to treat the coaster moving forward.

Effective November 4, The Electric Mayhem isn’t just racing across town to another concert.

They’re throwing a holiday show — assuming Scooter can actually get them there.
