Walt Disney World guests expect to get close to wildlife at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but one group recently discovered there is such a thing as getting a little too close.
A TikTok shared from Disney’s Animal Kingdom shows a giraffe approaching a safari vehicle during Savor the Savanna. Instead of simply wandering past the group, the giraffe apparently decided to investigate the vehicle itself.

Its target? The lights mounted along the top of the truck.
The giraffe can be seen reaching toward the safari vehicle and putting the equipment in its mouth, essentially turning part of the truck into an unexpected snack.
Fortunately, the encounter appears to have become more of a funny Disney World vacation memory than anything else. It also offered a pretty good example of what can happen when guests enter an environment where the animals are free to move around the savanna.
Giraffe Takes an Interest in Disney’s Safari Truck
The video was shared on TikTok by Will Gray with the caption, “Giraffe Got a Little Too Curious! Ps: Savor the Savor tour was worth it!” The post was tagged at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and included references to Kilimanjaro Safaris and Savor the Savanna.
In the video, the giraffe approaches incredibly close to the safari vehicle. The animal stretches its head toward the top of the truck and begins investigating the lights mounted above the guests.
Then comes the part nobody aboard probably expected.

The giraffe starts putting the equipment in its mouth.
For guests accustomed to seeing giraffes from a distance on Kilimanjaro Safaris, the moment provides a different perspective on just how close the animals can potentially get during these experiences.
Of course, the giraffe probably wasn’t intentionally trying to destroy Disney property. The animal simply appeared very interested in whatever was attached to the safari vehicle.
The result was still hilarious.
Instead of a carefully framed photo of a giraffe standing on the savanna, these Disney World guests went home with footage of one apparently trying to eat their truck.
And there is something particularly fitting about the encounter happening during Savor the Savanna.
Guests pay for this experience partly because it offers a more intimate look at the animals and environment inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This group certainly received the up-close portion of that promise.
Maybe just a little closer than expected.
What Is Savor the Savanna at Disney’s Animal Kingdom?
Savor the Savanna isn’t simply another ride through Kilimanjaro Safaris.
Disney describes it as a premium privately guided experience through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve. Guests travel deeper into the savanna and receive access to a secluded private viewing area while learning about the animals and their care from a guide.
The tour takes place aboard what Disney describes as a rugged safari vehicle traveling across an open savanna filled with wildlife.

That helps explain why an encounter like the one in the TikTok can happen.
Guests are traveling through areas occupied by the animals, creating opportunities for much closer encounters.
Exactly what guests see will naturally vary. Animals aren’t following a theme park ride script, and there is no guarantee a giraffe will walk directly up to the vehicle, much less decide to sample its lights.
That’s part of what can make an experience like this memorable.
One tour could feature animals staying farther away from the vehicle. Another could produce a moment like this one, where a giraffe gets curious enough to inspect the truck personally.
There Is More Than Wildlife on the Tour
The animals are only part of the Savor the Savanna experience.
Disney also includes food and beverages as part of the premium tour. Guests visit a private viewing area where they can enjoy African-inspired food while taking in views of the savanna. Disney also lists regional beer and wine among the beverage offerings for guests who are old enough to drink.
Currently, Disney lists Savor the Savanna at $199 to $209 per person before tax. Guests must be at least eight years old to participate, and anyone under 18 must have a participating adult with them.
Theme park admission is also required and isn’t included in the cost of the tour. Depending on the guest’s admission type, a theme park reservation may also be necessary.
That makes Savor the Savanna a significant additional expense on top of a regular Animal Kingdom visit.
For some guests, however, the smaller-scale wildlife experience and additional access could make the cost worthwhile. The TikTok creator certainly seemed to think so, specifically saying the tour was “worth it” after sharing the giraffe encounter.
It’s difficult to put a price on being able to tell everyone that a giraffe tried to eat part of your Disney World safari truck.
Animal Encounters Don’t Always Go According to Plan
One of the things that separates Disney’s Animal Kingdom from Disney World’s other theme parks is that many of its biggest stars are living animals.
That introduces an element Disney can’t completely script.
A giraffe doesn’t know that guests aboard a safari vehicle have itineraries, dining reservations, Lightning Lane plans, or another attraction they want to reach. If it decides to stand somewhere, investigate something or spend a little extra time around a vehicle, the experience can change accordingly.

That unpredictability is also part of the appeal.
Disney notes that the Savor the Savanna itinerary, content, duration and availability can change without notice. The excursion generally operates rain or shine, although severe weather or lightning can affect it.
Guests booking an animal-focused experience aren’t necessarily getting an identical adventure every time.
Sometimes that might mean an especially good view of wildlife from the private viewing area.
Sometimes an animal might appear much closer to the vehicle than expected.
And apparently, sometimes a giraffe decides the lights on top of Disney’s truck look interesting enough to taste.
This Is the Kind of Disney World Moment You Can’t Schedule
Disney World vacations have become increasingly structured.
Guests can plan dining reservations, purchase Lightning Lane access, check wait times, schedule special experiences and map out their days before they ever walk through a park entrance.
But Disney can’t put “giraffe tries to eat safari truck” on an itinerary.
That’s what makes videos like this so much fun.

The TikTok doesn’t show a new attraction, expensive special effect or carefully rehearsed piece of entertainment. It captures an animal doing something unexpected while guests happen to be there to see it.
For the people aboard the vehicle, the encounter probably became one of those vacation stories that gets told long after the trip ends.
Plenty of guests can say they saw a giraffe at Animal Kingdom.
Far fewer can say they watched one try to make a meal out of their safari vehicle.
And considering the TikTok creator’s final assessment that Savor the Savanna was worth it, the unexpected encounter certainly doesn’t appear to have hurt the experience. If anything, that curious giraffe may have provided the group with the best souvenir possible: a Disney World story they couldn’t have planned if they tried.
