Universal Announces Entire Theme Park Closure Through Early 2027
Universal Orlando Resort is preparing to take Universal Volcano Bay offline for months, giving guests only a few more weeks to visit the water theme park before its scheduled maintenance closure begins October 26, 2026. The shutdown will remove Volcano Bay from Universal Orlando’s operating lineup through the winter and into spring 2027.
The biggest planning issue is the reopening date. Universal’s current park-hours page and ticket pages say Volcano Bay is planned to reopen “on or before” March 24, 2027, although other Universal materials still show the closure extending through March 31. That makes checking the resort’s calendar close to travel especially important for late-March vacations.
Universal Volcano Bay Closure Starts October 26
Universal lists the October 26 start date as a maintenance closure, not a permanent shutdown. Its current park-hours page says the planned reopening is on or before March 24, 2027, meaning the park could be unavailable for nearly five months if that timetable holds.
That is a much larger interruption than losing a single slide or attraction to refurbishment. Every Volcano Bay experience becomes unavailable while the park itself is closed, including Krakatau Aqua Coaster, Ko’okiri Body Plunge and the Waturi Wave Pool.

Universal’s Reopening Dates Are Not Completely Consistent
There is an important wrinkle for anyone booking a March 2027 trip. Universal’s current park-hours page, Florida resident ticket page and deals page all identify March 24, 2027, as the “on or before” reopening target.
However, Universal’s published 2027 youth-group pricing says Volcano Bay will be closed for maintenance “until March 31, 2027.” Earlier in 2026, Universal had also posted an April 1 reopening target, a change Inside the Magic reported at the time.
For now, the March 24 date appears across multiple current consumer-facing Universal pages, but the conflicting official material means travelers should not treat any late-March date as guaranteed. Universal itself describes the reopening as planned, leaving room for the operating calendar to change.
The Closure Changes Multi-Park Vacation Planning
The shutdown matters most to travelers who see Volcano Bay as part of a broader Universal Orlando vacation rather than a standalone water-park day. Universal currently sells multi-day ticket products that can include Volcano Bay alongside Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe.

Guests traveling between October 26 and the eventual reopening should therefore verify exactly what their ticket includes and what will actually be operating on their dates. A product that normally offers Volcano Bay access does not override a scheduled park closure.
The same caution applies to Annual and Seasonal Passholders. Universal’s pass terms use park-specific blockout dates and restrictions, so passholders should check the calendar attached to their exact pass rather than assuming another pass tier follows the same rules.
Five Months Without Universal’s Water Park
For winter travelers, the practical consequence is straightforward: Universal Orlando will have no operating water park while Volcano Bay is closed. Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe are separate parks and are not included in this specific shutdown.
The timing also arrives during a period of broader operational change across Universal Orlando. Inside the Magic has covered the resort’s lengthy Jurassic Park River Adventure refurbishment, while other projects and temporary closures have continued across the destination.
Volcano Bay itself has also been evolving. Inside the Magic reported on cabana construction and other work around the water park earlier this year. Universal, however, has not publicly detailed a complete attraction-by-attraction scope for the October maintenance closure, so claims that the downtime guarantees new rides or major additions would go beyond what has been confirmed.
That distinction matters. A five-month closure creates a substantial maintenance window, but the official description remains a maintenance closure.
What Guests Should Do Before October 26
Anyone determined to include Volcano Bay in a fall 2026 Universal trip has a clear cutoff to work around. Visits need to take place before the October 26 closure, subject to the park’s posted operating schedule, weather conditions, ticket validity and any applicable pass restrictions.
It is also worth checking Universal’s park-hours page immediately before visiting. The company already notes that Volcano Bay closes on select dates, and operating calendars can change.
