It's Been A Month Since Disney Promised Fans Everything They Wanted, but Since Then... Nothing

Just about a month ago, the Chairman of Disney Experiences, Thomas Mazloum, nearly broke the Disney fandom with several major announcements that sent Disney Twitter into a frenzy. There were four projects in particular that fans had long pined for, and Mazloum proved in his first D23 as experiences chairman that he was listening.

The four projects fans clamored for were the return of a working Yeti to Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom, a refurbishment of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT, an overhaul of Tomorrowland at Disneyland, and an updated version of Journey Into Imagination featuring Figment with the return of the Dreamfinder.

So, after a month, all Disney fans want to know when they will get more information about these four projects, which they all desperately asked for. The answer may lie in the announcements about the projects underway at Disney World.

Disney World Project Announcement Timelines

When Disney announced that a Cars-themed land and Villains Land were coming to Magic Kingdom, it took only days before Disney announced that it would be replacing Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island after the major D23 announcement in 2024. Obviously, fans won’t be getting an announcement about the four announced projects in that timeline.

However, Disney announced the Monsters, Inc.-themed land coming to Hollywood Studios at the same D23 event in 2024, and didn’t announce that it would replace Muppets Courtyard and Muppet Vision 3D until months later. This timeline seems more realistic. The first announcement was made in August 2024, and the closure of Muppet Vision 3D wasn’t announced until months after that.

Given that timeline, guests shouldn’t expect information about these projects until after the new year, but that won’t sit well with Disney fans, especially since they’ve heard similar announcements before and the projects went nowhere.

EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth Reimagining: Connecting Humanity in the Digital Age

EPCOT’s iconic geodesic sphere is receiving its first major overhaul in nearly two decades. Imagineering is shifting the ride’s core storyline—traditionally centered on the history of human communication—to explore the broader theme of human connection. The updated attraction will guide guests through humanity’s technological progress, bringing the journey directly into the internet age and looking toward the future of global innovation.

Updated Storyline: Focuses on how human connection, shared knowledge, and advances in communication can bridge distances across the globe, expanding the attraction’s traditional focus on the history of human communication.

Modernized Scenes: Disney has announced that Imagineers are adding new magic to the scenes as part of the reimagining, although specific technologies and detailed scene changes have not yet been fully announced.

EPCOT Heritage: The attraction inside the iconic 180-foot Spaceship Earth structure is being reimagined while retaining its place as one of EPCOT’s signature experiences. Disney has not yet provided detailed information about any changes to the existing ride system.

The Return of the Yeti: Expedition Everest Restores Its Legendary Animatronic

In one of the most celebrated reveals of the event, Disney confirmed that the massive Yeti Audio-Animatronic inside Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will officially be brought back to life. After years of limited operation, the giant creature is set to regain its full, intended physical movement.

Restored Full Movement: Imagineers are working to bring the legendary Yeti back to its intended motion operation, restoring one of the attraction’s most recognizable effects.

Show Quality Enhancement: The restoration will bring back the dramatic Yeti encounter that serves as a climactic moment in the high-speed coaster experience.

Fan-Favorite Moment: The return addresses a long-standing request among Disney theme park fans who have hoped to see the Yeti restored to its full intended operation.

Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park: A Comprehensive Modern Reimagining

Disneyland Resort is launching a major transformation of its original Tomorrowland. The project aims to create more open spaces and introduce new futuristic experiences while continuing to evolve the land’s vision of the future.

Spatial Overhaul: Redesigning the land to create more open spaces and improve the overall pedestrian environment.

Autopia: Autopia remains the classic opening-day attraction within Tomorrowland. Disney has announced the broader Tomorrowland reimagining, but has not confirmed Autopia’s future after its all-electric conversion.

Dreamfinder and Figment Reunite: A New Flight of Fancy at EPCOT

Closing out the showcase, Disney announced that Dreamfinder is officially returning to EPCOT to reunite with Figment inside the Imagination! Pavilion. The news addresses a long-standing fan desire to see the whimsical inventor, who debuted alongside the purple dragon in 1983, return to the attraction.

Character Reunion: Dreamfinder will once again partner with Figment on a new journey into imagination, bringing the classic characters back together.

New Attraction Experience: Reimagines the current Journey Into Imagination With Figment with a new journey featuring Dreamfinder and Figment. Disney has not yet announced a specific new track layout or provided complete details about the attraction’s storyline.

Honoring EPCOT History: Blends the nostalgia of the original 1980s characters and concept with a new attraction experience designed to bring Dreamfinder and Figment back into EPCOT’s Imagination! Pavilion.

When to Expect an Announcement?

So, realistically, when should Disney fans expect some concrete information about these projects? The answer is that we have no idea.

Disney’s next earnings call isn’t until November, and given that the announcements felt rushed and lacked solid details, November is the earliest fans can expect anything. A more realistic option feels like, at some point early in the New Year,

That isn’t necessarily what Disney fans want to hear, but it doesn’t feel like Disney will have anything ready until then. This will also allow Disney to wrap up some of its other construction projects on both coasts before any announcements of new work.

So, for now, Disney fans will just have to wait and trust that these beloved projects will be coming soon. Until then, we’ll always have our memories of this year’s D23 to carry us to the next announcement.
