Disney has offered its clearest look yet inside The Magic of Disney Animation, the new collection of experiences opening September 14 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The preview shows Off the Page!, Olaf Draws!, Drawn to Wonderland and the Once Upon a Studio Theater.

For longtime Disney World fans, however, one detail carries more weight than the colorful sets and character encounters. The new drawing class uses an Audio-Animatronics Olaf as host and recorded instruction from Disney Animation artists, rather than putting a live artist at the front of the room.
Disney Reveals The Magic of Disney Animation Before September 14 Opening
Disney confirmed in July that The Magic of Disney Animation would open September 14, 2026, inside the former Star Wars: Launch Bay building. The attraction anchors the Walt Disney Studios Lot, the reworked area that replaced Animation Courtyard and draws visual inspiration from the company’s animation campus in Burbank, California.
The latest preview shows how the studio premise carries through character spaces, artwork and the drawing classroom. Cast Member previews have also begun, as Inside the Magic reported ahead of the attraction’s debut.
As Inside the Magic previously reported in its guide to the new experiences, the building combines four principal experiences under one roof rather than operating as a conventional ride.
Olaf Draws! Replaces a Live-Led Format With Recorded Artists
Olaf Draws! is likely to draw the most scrutiny from Disney adults who remember earlier Animation Academy experiences. Disney says a new Olaf Audio-Animatronics figure hosts the class, with original dialogue recorded by Josh Gad. Guests then receive step-by-step tips, techniques and stories from Disney Animation artists through recorded segments.
That distinction matters. Disney is still putting working artists and directors on screen, including Eric Goldberg, Fawn Veerasunthorn and other Disney Animation talent, but the instructional delivery is prerecorded. Inside the Magic previously detailed the drawing lineup.
It is tempting to fold that choice into the larger anxiety around artificial intelligence, automation and entertainment-industry jobs. The confirmed facts do not support going that far. Disney has not said Olaf Draws! uses generative AI, nor has it publicly characterized the prerecorded format as a labor-saving measure or said that it eliminated jobs.
Still, the creative tradeoff is visible: a human artist’s live, variable interaction has been exchanged for a repeatable show built around an animatronic character and recorded human expertise. For an attraction celebrating animation as a craft, that choice will be worth watching for guests.
Off the Page! Turns Animation Departments Into Character Sets
Elsewhere, Disney is leaning heavily into human-made animation history. Off the Page! organizes character encounters around stages of the filmmaking process. Disney’s official Magic of Disney Animation announcement lists Mulan in Story, Rapunzel in Layout, Chip ’n’ Dale in Hand-Drawn Animation, Donald and Daisy in Computer Animation, Goofy in Lighting and Stitch in Effects among the characters guests may encounter.
The setup gives the meet-and-greets context. Inside the Magic previously covered Mulan and Rapunzel appearing at Hollywood Studios ahead of their permanent Off the Page! locations, while earlier coverage traced the broader Walt Disney Studios transformation.
Disney’s language is important here: these are characters guests “may” meet. That leaves room for operational changes or substitutions after opening, so the announced lineup should not be treated as a guarantee for every visit.
Drawn to Wonderland Puts Mary Blair’s Art at Child Scale
Drawn to Wonderland takes a different approach. The indoor playground is based on Disney Legend Mary Blair’s concept art for Alice in Wonderland, translating the Mad Tea Party, Mad Hatter’s house, Queen of Hearts’ rose garden and Cheshire Cat’s Tulgey Wood into a space designed for younger guests.
Disney has positioned the playground as a place for children to explore while families recharge without leaving the themed environment.
The company’s official attraction listing for The Magic of Disney Animation also confirms a Once Upon a Studio Theater, where Mickey Mouse and other characters appear in the short celebrating more than 100 years of Disney animation. Inside the Magic has tracked the project through its recent Cast Member preview phase.
Disney’s Animation Revival Comes With a Different Definition of “Studio”
The new Magic of Disney Animation arrives with deliberate echoes of Hollywood Studios’ past, but it is not a restoration of a working animation facility. Instead, Disney has built an attraction about the process: guests can see stylized departments, meet characters, watch animation, explore artwork and make a drawing of their own.
That makes Olaf Draws! the most revealing piece of the project. The experience celebrates professional artists, but packages their instruction into recorded content while an Audio-Animatronic character handles the in-room hosting. Whether guests see that as clever Imagineering, a diminished version of a live art lesson, or simply a fun way to draw with Olaf cannot be established before the public experiences it.
What is confirmed is much narrower—and more useful for trip planning. The Magic of Disney Animation opens September 14 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with Off the Page!, Olaf Draws!, Drawn to Wonderland and the Once Upon a Studio Theater among its offerings. Once regular guests enter, the real test will be whether Disney’s highly produced version of an animation studio still makes the human craft behind those characters feel present.
