During festival season, World Showcase in Germany can be especially busy. Visitors flock to the area to grab Schöfferhofer Grapefruit Beer, warm pretzels, and bratwurst from the festival marketplace kiosks.
Under normal conditions, the interconnected indoor shops also provide guests with an indoor route and space away from the promenade. On blistering Florida afternoons or during sudden rainstorms, large numbers of guests duck inside to browse cuckoo clocks while dodging promenade crowds. With portions of those indoor pathways blocked, additional foot traffic can be pushed toward the central plaza, potentially increasing congestion around the outdoor beer stands and the entrance to Karamell-Küche.
Compounding the problem is the loss of the pavilion’s public restrooms. With Germany’s facilities closed, festival guests indulging in heavy food and drink are forced to migrate to restrooms elsewhere in World Showcase—adding even more foot traffic to an already congested walkway.

When asked when the construction walls would come down, Cast Members stationed throughout the pavilion have reportedly said they do not have a timeline or estimated completion date to provide.
Industry speculation has focused on the pavilion’s age and its infrastructure. Because World Showcase buildings contain extensive utility, plumbing, and drainage systems, work involving those systems can require access to areas beyond the immediate guest-facing location.
