Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure has never had much trouble attracting a crowd.
The Islands of Adventure coaster remains one of Universal Orlando Resort’s biggest draws, making anything involving a shorter path onto Hagrid’s particularly interesting.
Now, a recent Express surprise is getting attention from guests.
Universal hasn’t returned Hagrid’s to the regular Express lineup. Instead, a much more limited form of Express access has surfaced.
Why Hagrid’s Coaster Remains So Popular
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure opened at Islands of Adventure in 2019 and quickly became one of Universal Orlando’s signature attractions.
Located in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade, the coaster takes guests into the Forbidden Forest alongside Hagrid. Riders board either the motorbike or sidecar before racing past magical creatures and familiar Wizarding World elements.
The attraction features multiple launches, unexpected movements, indoor and outdoor sections, and several surprises. Its combination of storytelling and thrills has helped it maintain substantial demand years after opening.
That demand also makes Hagrid’s a complicated attraction to manage.

Universal Removed Express From Hagrid’s in July
For a time, Universal Express gave eligible guests another way to experience Hagrid’s without relying solely on standby.
That changed on July 1, 2026.
Universal removed Express access from Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure as it worked to improve the attraction’s queue flow. Express reportedly contributed to longer standby waits and increased congestion at an already busy attraction.
Guests could no longer purchase Express and expect to use it at the coaster as they could at participating Universal attractions.
However, that wasn’t necessarily the end of all Express access at Hagrid’s.

Universal Has Brought Back Part of Hagrid’s Express Access
Here’s where the distinction matters.
Universal has not restored normal Express access to Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Guests cannot purchase Universal Express and use it at Hagrid’s as part of their regular benefits.
But Express access has returned in a much more limited capacity.
Universal Team Members can hand-select guests’ single-use Express passes, allowing them to enter Hagrid’s through the Express queue. Think of it as a surprise guest-service gesture rather than a traditional paid skip-the-line option.
That distinction is important. The entire Express program has not returned to Hagrid’s, but part of it has: select guests can once again receive an Express pass and use the Express entrance.
The catch is that you can’t simply buy access to Hagrid’s. Guests appear to receive these passes at Team Members’ discretion as special surprises.
And one recent guest got incredibly lucky.

Universal Guests Get a Major Hagrid’s Surprise
A Reddit user recently described receiving one after traveling between Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.
The guest wrote:
“we got off the hogwarts express from Universal Studios to Islands of Adventure, and my gf and I were just trying to make the Harry Potter and the forbidden journey. But right when we got off an employee came up to us and gave us two tickets for an express pass for Hagrid’s Motor Bike adventure! We quickly rushed over and they took us on the express pass line and we got on the ride in less than 20 minutes.”
The guest later added, “Definitely felt like a magical moment.”
Universal Team Members occasionally surprise guests like this to improve their experience.
In this case, the couple reportedly boarded Hagrid’s within 20 minutes, rather than facing a potentially lengthy standby wait.
Still, guests shouldn’t expect the same treatment. These passes appear to be limited surprises rather than something visitors can request or purchase.
Could Regular Express Eventually Return?
The bigger question is whether this limited access could eventually lead to a broader return.
If Hagrid’s eventually settles into wait times closer to Jurassic World VelociCoaster, Universal could reconsider regular Express access. VelociCoaster eventually added Express after years without it.
Universal could also try a more controlled approach.
One possibility would be selling a single-attraction Express option for Hagrid’s with an assigned return window. That could resemble Disney World’s Lightning Lane approach and give Universal greater control over how many Express guests arrive during a given period.
Limiting availability could prevent the Express queue from becoming overwhelmed while giving guests another way to experience the attraction.
For now, Universal hasn’t announced anything like that.

Hagrid’s Express Is Back, Just Not How You Remember It
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure hasn’t returned to Universal’s standard Express lineup, and guests shouldn’t purchase Express expecting it to work there.
But saying Express has completely disappeared from Hagrid’s no longer tells the whole story.
Universal can once again send select guests through Hagrid’s Express queue using single-use passes handed out by Team Members. It’s a highly limited return compared with the previous system. Still, it gives some lucky visitors something most guests currently can’t buy: a much shorter route onto one of Universal Orlando Resort’s most popular rides.
For everyone else, standby remains the normal way aboard—and whether full Express access will eventually return is an open question.
