Credit: DisneyThis weekend, Disneyland Resort began refurbishing its family-friendly ride inspired by The Little Mermaid (1989). Here’s what to know before heading to experience The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure Park.
The Little Mermaid Ride Refurbishment
On August 8, WDWNT reported that construction materials and temporary barriers had appeared outside The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, a ride in Paradise Gardens Park at Disney California Adventure Park. On social media, the outlet shared this photo of the attraction facade surrounded by plywood walls:
The plywood barriers run from the main attraction entrance and down the right side of the building. Behind the construction walls on the right side, almost the entire facade is engulfed by scaffolding and covered with a black scrim fabric. Only a door exclusively for use by Disney cast members remains visible on that side of the building, surrounded by scaffolding and scrim.
Unlike the plywood construction walls, the scaffolding and scrim do not extend into the main entrance to The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure. The towering columns and decorated walls at the entrance to Paradise Gardens Park remain visible to guests as they walk through.
Despite what is clearly an extensive refurbishment project, The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure remains open to guests at Disney California Adventure Park. Disneyland Resort has not announced an upcoming closure for the attraction, so it seems the maintenance work is only affecting the exterior of the building, not the actual ride system inside.
As is standard procedure when construction does not affect guest-facing operations, Disneyland Resort has not issued a statement about the Little Mermaid ride refurbishment. Follow Inside the Magic for updates on this and other developments at Disney parks around the world!
