The entrance arches that have welcomed guests since Universal Studios Florida opened in 1990 are undergoing significant changes. Construction walls now surround portions of the landmark as Universal prepares to replace its familiar color scheme with a dramatically different look.

And for anyone who remembers the Universal Studios Florida of the 1990s, this could take some getting used to.
Universal Studios Florida’s Entrance Is Changing
Universal Studios Florida opened on June 7, 1990, and its entrance arches quickly became one of the resort’s most recognizable landmarks.
The original design looked different from what guests see today. Universal’s 1990 entrance featured a symmetrical layout, with gargoyles positioned on both sides of the structure. It was an elaborate gateway that fit the original identity of a park built around the idea of stepping into the world of movies and television.
The arches eventually changed as Universal Orlando itself grew.
After Universal CityWalk and Islands of Adventure transformed the resort, Universal redesigned the entrance into the asymmetrical configuration guests know today. The Universal globe logo became a major part of the structure, while the new layout better accommodated changing traffic patterns and the resort’s expanded footprint.
Even with those modifications, however, the entrance retained a visual connection to Universal Studios Florida’s early years.
That connection is about to look considerably different.
Construction Walls Have Arrived
Guests recently spotted construction walls surrounding portions of the Universal Studios Florida entrance arches, signaling that work on the landmark is underway.
The most noticeable change involves color.
For decades, the entrance has featured yellow, beige, and sandstone-style tones. Those colors became part of the visual identity of Universal Studios Florida, particularly for guests who visited throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
Inside the Magic previously reported that the arches appeared headed for a white repaint as Universal continued updating the entrance area. The expected new design would use brighter white columns with cream tones, brown trim, and roofing.
That change wouldn’t come completely out of nowhere.
Universal has already been moving away from the older yellow-beige sandstone palette around the entry plaza. Updating the arches would bring the longtime landmark in line with the newer look surrounding it.
Still, imagining that change is one thing. Seeing what it could actually look like is another.

Viral Photo Shows What the New Universal Arches Could Look Like
A new edited image circulating on social media is giving Universal fans a possible preview.
Theme Park Wire shared a concept showing the entrance arches with the reported white color scheme, offering a glimpse at how dramatically the entrance could change.

It’s important to note that the image is an edit, not an official rendering released by Universal Orlando Resort. It shouldn’t be taken as confirmation of the exact finished appearance.
However, the concept helps put the reported changes into perspective.
Changing the arches from their familiar sandstone-inspired appearance to a predominantly white design creates a much brighter and more modern entrance. The architecture remains recognizable, but the overall impression is considerably different.
For longtime Universal fans, that’s likely where this refurbishment becomes more significant than an ordinary paint job.
A 36-Year-Old Piece of Universal Is Entering Another Era
Universal Studios Florida has changed almost constantly since 1990.
Attractions have disappeared. Entire sections have been rebuilt. Islands of Adventure opened next door in 1999, and CityWalk turned Universal into a much larger destination. Volcano Bay followed in 2017, and Epic Universe opened in May 2025.
Through all of that growth, the Universal Studios Florida entrance remained a familiar piece of the resort’s past.
The arches aren’t disappearing altogether, but the version longtime visitors recognize is being replaced by a new visual identity. That’s particularly notable because nearly every guest encounters the entrance, whether they’re heading inside for the first time or returning after dozens of visits.
The arches have also become something of an unofficial photo spot. Guests see them before reaching the turnstiles, and their design immediately signals that you’ve arrived at Universal Studios Florida.
Now that construction walls are in place, that evolution is becoming much easier to see.
Universal Orlando Keeps Moving Forward
The timing also makes sense when looking at Universal Orlando Resort as a whole.
This isn’t the same resort guests visited even a few years ago. Epic Universe has expanded Universal Orlando into a much larger vacation destination, while new hotels, attractions, and infrastructure continue changing the property.
Refreshing the original park’s entrance helps connect Universal Studios Florida to that newer era.
Of course, modernization comes with a tradeoff. Every update removes another small piece of the visual identity guests remember from previous vacations.
Universal isn’t demolishing the entrance arches or eliminating the landmark. But if the finished project follows the reported white-and-cream direction, the familiar 1990-era appearance will effectively become another piece of Universal Orlando history.
Construction walls already tell us that change has begun.
